I like this article lot & I think it helps put things into perspective a bit. I'm glad you wrote this Rob & I'd like to say thank you. It needed to be said by an non-ex member & it's absolutely the truth. There is no perfect world or society except heaven & however flawed the one we had may have been, it was home for many of us for many years & the only one we had. Some may not apprecitate that it was the only one we had, but all the same there's no guarantee that things would've been any better anywhere else. In fact, with times having changed as much as they have now & with a more even distribution of wealth, it's probably easier to get by in the world by yourself now than ti would've been for most people say 20 years ago, this of-course is subjective to each persons perspective & circumstances, I'm just speaking generally. There have always been hardtimes for people since the dawn of civilisation, & the fact that the Family chose a missionary lifestyle is not the reason that there were difficulties. Others have had it very much worse, & all I can say isw that in the end, things usually even themselves out because God is fair & just & no respector of persons. In bible times when Jesus came to earth there were also rich & poor people, & there were also crimes committed. the story about lazarus & the rich man gives us the indication that either in this life or in the next (& believe me there IS a next life) things even themselves out. In many ways the Family has had it a lot better than most missionaries in history many of whom had it very rough.
Anyway, all that to say thanks Rob for sharing that perspective!
