Map location; http://www.paradisepoint.com/location.cfm. It’s about 6 miles from the airport.
We chose this place, as Ricky loved to be outdoors. He loved scenic areas such as parks, beaches and cliffs: anything with a beautiful and peaceful view. Here are some pictures Don and I took of the place while scoping it out.

http://www.stoplyingpeter.com/imageviewer.aspx

I really think everyone will love this place. The outdoor Memorial area is a beautiful grassy lawn with foliage surrounding one side and creating a natural hedge and private area, the other side is open facing the San Diego Bay area. We scheduled the ending of the memorial to fall around sunset.

The place we picked for the Reception is equally as beautiful. In the pictures you will notice that it sits on the water and the outside porch area hangs over it. The pictures were taken during the day and do not show it at it’s full beauty. We will have Tiki lamps set up along the balcony edge and around the lawn. The tables will be adorned with flowers and candles. In the center there will be a dance floor for those who with to dance the night away. We will also be serving dinner in a buffet style for those who wish to eat there. If not the facilities have 3 gorgeous restaurants on site along with a bar, nightclub, full spa, mini golf, pools, gym and many other facilities. There are also many beautiful walkways, ponds, surrounded by tropical lagoons with bridges and gazebos.

Although we have secured the location we have still not covered all the expenses. Those of us who are working on this are using much of our own money as we feel this is extremely important to all of us. Ricky was loved by many of us and was a huge part of all our lives. I only wish you all could have gotten a chance to know him personally as he was one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Every day of his life that I knew him he only thought of all of you. He felt a huge weight of responsibility to help and do something to make right the wrong that was done. Although I tried and his wife and friends tried to explain to him that it was not his burden to carry, nothing could change his mind from feeling it was. So even if you cannot make it, (which I hope you can) you can help make it possible for others to come by helping. Below is a link updating you on what is still needed. Any little bit you can share is helpful.

We hope to see you there!

PS .We would also like to extend an invitation to Ricky’s sister Techi and her Husband and son. Ricky would have wanted you to be there. No mater what happened he was still your brother and loved you so much. He talked about you all the time and wanted to see you so badly. I am saddened greatly that he never had the chance to say goodbye he loved you more then anything. Please try to attend if you can.

*New- Event Policy's

Attire . The Memorial is a formal event. Please dress appropriately (this is not a beach party so please no shorts and flip flops). The weather is usually in the 60-70’s .

Photo’s: Any photos taken at the event should be for personal use only. If you are going to take photos while at the event please be respectful to those in the pictures, do not be posting them without their permission.

Illegal substances are prohibited: Please do not jeopardize this event by bringing your personal “party accessories” to it. Please drink responsibly as well.

No verbal abuse.

Religion: ( If you have one) No witnessing. While you are free to believe in whatever you want please do not try to impose your beliefs on others who do not share them. This is not a “witnessing” opportunity and many will find it offensive. IF you do not respect this request you may be asked to leave.

EX- FGA’s: You are welcome to come as well. Please be sure to RSVP as well. If you come please be respectful and we ask that all SGA’s to show the same respect. This is a Memorial for Ricky to show our respect for a lost loved one, not a time to hash things out and take up personal issues.

R SVP: If you wish to attend please email me at sarafina1973@yahoo.com with your first and last name & age. If I, or those organizing this event do not know you we may ask a few more questions. We do not mean to be intrusive we just want to verify who you are and how you are associated with this event.

Non Exfam – friends/gf’s/bf’s/bandmates/soulmates are all welcome as well, as long as you rsvp them and we know who they are coming with. Anyone who has been there for you and is part of your lives and wishes to be part of this and pay their respect is welcome.

Attention; For those of you flying in to San Diego for Ricky’s Memorial A good friend has offered to chauffeur you. He can pick you up and bring you to the resort or whatever hotel you are staying in near by. This was you don’t have to worry about renting a car or cab. If you would like to be picked up please make sure to email me your names and flight info/time you are arriving and I will email you with a confirmation.

My brother, Dave, and I have recently moved to San Diego, and although we don't have the biggest place in the world, we would like to accomodate as many memorial attendees as we can, especially those arriving from out of state, lower their travel costs by making our apartment available for a couple of nights. We already have a few RSVPs, which were made prior to our move in; however, we have a few spots left.

We've all done the "packed-like-sardines" thing before, so I'm sure we can do it again for a night or two.

If interested, use the email in my profile to let us know. I'll post another comment here once the there's no more room in the inn. Bring your flee bag.

Regards,

Anthony

Is there any chance that the more people stay at the resort, the resort will also give you some credit for that when they tally up the food and drink consumption? Cuz they just might get a nice chunk of business from those of us who stay there. Just a thought.(reply to this comment

Who will be presiding over the memorial service? Will it be like most services, i.e. eulogies, music, etc?

Yes it will be. There will be eulogies from a few of his relatives, family and friends (all non members of course) Also a few songs played/sung along with a compiled slideshow of pictures of his life. It will be somewhat formal (with the exception of a few of his favorite songs played) It will be held outside on a grassy lawn with rows of chairs and a platform in front.

After we will hold a reception to celebrate his life and party the night away as he would have wanted us all to.

Well perhaps we'll have a gypsy dance followed by a special activity (stargazing) with homemade tofu cookies and powdered milk. But that's still in the works so don't get your hopes up too high. (reply to this comment

Cheep car rentals in San Diego.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but Budget Rent a Car has really good weekend rates during the weekend of the memorial.

If your over 25 you can get a mid size sedan from Thursday night till Sunday night for $62.17 including all taxes. (Insurance may be more if you don't have your own.)

Their main # is 1800-527-0700.

On February 1st, 2005, Newdaynews.com made its PayPal account available to collect donations via credit cards and other electronic methods, for the Ricky Rodriguez Memorial Fund.

On February 10, 2005 a check for $130.00 was sent to the fund.

Since that date, another $405.00 has been received, and will be forwarded soon pending clearance of "eCheck" items in the next few days.

To date, a total of $535.00 has been collected.

Question:

We were orginally given this address:

Send all checks to:
Richard P. Rodriguez
8880 Rio San Diego Dr. #800
San Diego, CA 92108 USA

Is that still good? Or should we be sending checks to:

Elixcia Munumel
1402 Auburn Way #217
Auburn, WA 98002-3309

Can you verify if the check and letter from NDN that was sent several days ago was received? it went to the first address on Rio San Diego Dr.

Thanks!

Is there anyway we can set up a Fed I.D. # or something to that effect? If I can provide a tax ID or something of that nature I could probably raise quite a bit of money towards the memorial/safepassage foundation from several sources, everyone I've spoken to is willing to help but they want something "official".

Yes, saw the show just the other day and I thought everyone interviewed came across well. And they showed a lot of the early pics of Ricky from the "Dito book" which really drove the point home. Claire ending in "well it's her policy" was powerful too, just shows how much Zerby has to hide. (reply to this comment

You can email me for now with your full name and the names of those who will be attending with you, if you know of someone coming who does not have computer access you can send me and an email on their behalf and vouch for them or send a letter to Elixcia at the address above and we will add your names to the guest list.

If someone decides to show up at the last minute and they are not on the guest list they can see one of us and let us know who they are or if we don't know them they can have someone on the guest list that they do know vouch for them. The point is we just would like to kind of know who everyone is and not have a bunch of strangers showing up posing as exmembers.(reply to this comment
