Getting Through : Lighten Up

frustrated ....

from TimothyD - Friday, November 23, 2007

People seem to talk about stuff they don't know, or make up stuff (just for shock effect) on websites, Youtube.com comments, Amazon book reviews etc... But how can a lot of peeps in TF just not care and treat other people they just met better than their own (former) 2nd gen

A little about my background first.

I left about 4 years ago, joined the Army and now working on my second tour in Iraq. After this tour I plan on going to med school. The reason for my leaving was based more on making a life for myself, one where I didn't have to depend on other (at times unreliable and emotionally driven people) to all agree on every decision for the rest of my life. I grew up to hate having to do that.

Growing up I never witnessed abuses going on in the group nor has anyone else in my family ever seen it.

However I won't deny that leadership in the family might have been wrong at times, bad stuff might have happened and was most likely done etc.

Sometimes, I look at the exfamily websites just to catch up, and find out what's going on with the family nowadays etc. One time I made the mistake of looking At exfamily.org at work and got in trouble for looking at "porn and reading stuff I wasn't supposed to"

2 things piss me off...

#1 some exmembers and sympethisers.

People talk about stuff they don't know, or make up stuff (just for shock effect) on websites, Youtube.com comments, Amazon book reviews etc..

Sympethise with people when they tell their story.

Tell your story and what you know to be true. But don't be talking about a bunch of hearsay, or making stuff up (like some people do)

I think the majority of us (who grew up in TF) can tell when people are making stuff up, and when someone is telling a story that really happened. Or when it's just some moron who just watched a 10 min news episode on youtube says these guys need to be destroyed...

#2 On the Family's side of the coin...

In my opinion and experience, the majority of people in The Family have taken a stance of not believing anything bad ex-members have to say. Even if it's the simplest of complaints.. I never once said "I was abused" or grew up in a bad environment. Cause I don't think I did. But of course I did see injustices and even still see injustices go on when I visit family homes nowadays. And if I say anything about it (which I normally do cause I can't keep my big mouth shut) I nearly get thrown out of the house, and sometimes do get the boot.

What gets me is how can an outsider say he heard something bad about the group and The Family member, or the group leadership (if big enough case) will go way out of their way to convince them otherwise.

Whereas for us their own (former) 2nd generation. They won't even give me the time of day even after all I would say is "I don't think so and so (one of my friends still in the group)was being treated fairly right there." Or "I no longer believe in the Keys, prophecy, and LJ" what I always get is the response "you turned your back on God's highest will in your life how could you?"

Not from my personal Family though.. They seem to understand that I don't care to hear about the family's religion and that I hate arguing with them and prefer just to be on good terms with them..

But why do others have to get so pissy that's one thing that never ceases to amaze me..

(Agree/Disagree?)

Your profile doesn't indicate your age. Some of the younger SG's grew up at a time when a lot of inapropriate/harmful behaviors or activities were already banned. You would still have to be aware that pubs were purged and that we were taught to deny that these events ever occurred in the first place. Also, even after certain policies were changed, if infractions occurred, they were often responded to with a slap on the wrist (if that).

I'll admit that when I first got on this site, I thought there might be quite a bit of exaggeration and "jumping on the bandwagon". Part of that was because there were many things that I had for years avoided thinking about. Also, my dad was able to protect my sister and me from a lot of the abuses that were taking place around us. Still, I was at a young age deeply affected by sexual harassment from the "brothers" in our home and by the awareness that the girls who were a year or two older than me were "sharing" with older men.

As has also been brought up, educational neglect is a form of abuse. Maybe you and your siblings were among the few who received an adequate education. Your writing ability says otherwise, but I'm giving your folks the benefit of the doubt. You still don't have to look far among your peers who grew up in TF to realize that most were deprived of basic educational opportunities.

If you're going to throw out allegations that people are just making stuff up for shock value, it would be really nice if you could cite at least one example.

I'm guessing you must be at best, mid-twenties, probably younger. Which means not only were you a toddler when the most horrendous of abuses were being carried out, you were also blissfully unaware when the Family's whitewash machine went into damage control mode and basically re-wrote history.

It's because of the people who were brave enough to tell their stories to the world that you didn't experience the torture and human rights violations that a lot of us did. Just because you didn't see it or experience it, doesn't mean it didn't happen or that it's being made up, and when you throw around allegations of "making stuff up" you do a disservice to those who did suffer and who, through vocalizing their pain, paved the way for the relative freedom you grew up with.

...that your lack of education is showing by what you have written? Your family and TF may not have physically hurt you but they neglected to teach you how to write a logical sentence and paragraph. Neglect. It's a kind of abuse.

are you timothy dietrich? If you are you were a teen terror and were persecuted right along with my husband and daniel.

I am wondering if you are referring to my comment on youtube? posted here: http://www.youtube.com/user/exFamily

There is an over-whelming amount of 1st-hand testimony that substanitates the child abuse, neglect and molestion was widespread. David Berg advocates child abuse in his writings, check out this ML: http://pubs.xfamily.org/text.php?t=1512

I am married to the man who was the ring leader teen terror. Every punishment outlined in that letter was followed and carried out. If you need to hear it first-hand, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to discuss what happened to him and incidents he witnessed. Send me an email with your phone number.

If you are a SGA, you've read the crap from the dead pedophile pimp who still "talks" to his number 1 whore from the dead.

Is it possible you are not strong enough to face the ugly truth? Denial perhaps? Were involved in sexual activities at a young age that you are not ready to deal with emotionally?

Conversations with brainwashed SGA + voicing backslider opinions to brainwashed SGA = Standard brainwashed response from SGA?!?!?! What a surprise! Stop casting your pearls before swine, my friend; come out from among them, and be ye separate, sayeth Shikaka.

Furthermore, didnt someone named TimothyD recently post a brief, whiny article about this site's lack of order? Wherefore post ye in "Lighten Up"? Oh the bitter irony.

Once there was this kid who got into an accident and couldn't come to school, and when he finally came back his hair had turned from black into bright white. He said that it was from when the cars had smashed him so hard.

Then there was a girl who wouldn't go and change with the girls in the change room, and when they finally made her they saw birthmarks all over her body. She couldn't quite explain it, they'd always just been there.

But both girl and boy were glad, because one kid had it worse than that.

Then there was this kid whose parents made him come directly home right after school, and when they went to their church they shook and lurched all over the church floor. He couldn't quite explain it, they'd always just done that.

Well, luckily (out of the family) everyone is entitled to their opinion…

Even if it is just that—Only your opinion…

Maybe you got lucky in the family? Who knows?

Though, I’d consider being Falsely accused of “making up stuff” just another cultish--fear tactic…

That is my opinion.

About your first point:

Are you suggesting people are making up allegations about TF simply for shock value? If so, do you have any examples?

I think we can often tell when someone is making something up about TF, but then again some people say that no one was in any way abused, so obviously not everyone is capable of doing so.

About the youtube comments: I agree, TF should be destroyed. Not the members in general, mind you, but the organization... and certain members as well.
