RISE International, a new international non-profit organization which has been set up to help protect children from abuse in cults, will show the 2006 British documentary film Cult Killer that chronicles the life and death of Rick Rodriguez and the history of The Children of God.

‘A Dark Look into the Children of God Cult’ is a fundraiser for RISE International and will also feature a short talk by Juliana Buhring, the best selling author of Not Without My Sister, a memoir of her growing up in, surviving and escaping the Children of God.

Acclaimed San Francisco Chronicle journalist Don Lattin will also speak about his recently released book, Jesus Freaks - Murder and Madness on the Evangelical Edge, about the murder-suicide and the history of the Children of God in Arizona, California and Texas.

Both books will be available for purchase and signing by the authors.

‘A Dark Look into the Children of God Cult’ film night and book signing will take place from 5PM until 7PM (event time subject to final confirmation, may change), on the 11th of November at the Screening Room, 127 E Congress St. Tucson, Arizona

$20 advance tickets may be purchased online (see link below). Tickets will also be available at the door for a $25 donation.

I hope the event is a roaring success. Even though I cannot be there I am wishing you all the best.

These fundraisers are really important as organisations need luca to be able to operate. Even if you can't be there please spread the word and link the donate page of the sites. Better still make it one of yours or your companies regular charities. Get involved in some way weather its spreading the word or putting on your own fundraiser. There is money out there and its high time that some of it went to helping those who were born and raised in cults.

Awesome; however, the correct spelling for that city is "Tucson". :-)

Thank you. I've corrected the spelling of "Tucson." Unfortunately, I relied on the Firefox built-in inline spell checker which apparently missed it. (reply to this comment

I wish and hope all the best for you in this event. You have a lot of courage to get involved in this event and our prayers and thoughts are with you. "Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place"(Ephesians 6:14. Stand firm in the righteousness of God and stand firm for the truth, I hope and pray the s continuous stand for the truth is made against the wickedness that happened, and I pray it causes The Family Leadership to take responsbility for their actions and bring their wicked deeds into the light instead of hiding. "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light , lest his deeds should be exposed."(John 3:20).

Julie you are a real hero, and I know it must be difficult for you to take a stand for the truth after all you went through. Let your light shine with the truth as you show TF Leadership what it means to be a real Christian, real Christians don't hide in a cave in the darkness so their deeds wont be exposed, real Christians let their lights shine with the truth so the darkness has to curl back into its hole. Mama Maria and Peter curl back into their hole when the light and truth is brought out, keep getting the truth out Julie! Your an inspiration to many. Mama Maria and Peter cannot comprehend your light of truth, they are hiding from you, "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."(John 1:5)

Your a hero Julie, stand firm on the truth and the light, while they stand firm on lies and the darkness.

You should know that I'm not any kind of Christian, so I don't know how I'll be "showing Family Leadership what it means to be a real Christian". Sorry to disappoint, but there will be no little lights shining. Truth is respective to the individual. I stand firm in myself alone.(reply to this comment

Thats fine if your not a Christian, and you don't dissapoint me. I just see you following in the steps of Jesus and His truth more than anyone I know, its very rare I see someone take a stand for the truth and come out in courage.

While Maria and Peter are lurking in their hole like cowards, you are courageously coming out into the light. I don't care what religion your currently following, to me your a hero, I know I couldnt do what your doing. You have a lot of courage!

Good Luck!

Archer, while I mostly agree with your comment I have to ask you: Were you born into The Family? Because this site was put together for people who were.(reply to this comment

Good luck on your event, it sounds like a great opportunity to meet two new and powereful voices in the struggle to identify and adress the SGA experience. If you ever do something similar out here in the San Diego area, I'd be interested.
