from Jules - Sunday, October 27, 2002 accessed 1156 times E-commerce sales and community support. There have been some requests for some of the original artwork to be put on t-shirts or sold as posters here. I would like to be able to accomodate these requests, but I think that any proceeds from these sales should go to the artists. Since I will be selling Vandari merchandise directly from this site (rather than from the cafe press store the other merchandise is sold from) I will be setting up a store front for these products, and would like to extend the ability to add products to this store to other people here. I think the simplest way to accomodate this would be for anyone who is interested in selling their artwork to sign up with Cafe Press themselves. It is free to set up a store with them, and they handle all shipping, billing and manufacturing. To create a Cafe Press store, click on the banner below. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/storeref.aspx?refby=movingon> src=http://www.cafepress.com/cp/banners/cp_referral_120x90.gif width=120 height=90 border=0> When you have set up your own store, you can upload your images directly to your cafe press site, and produce your own merchandise. There is a production charge from Cafe Press for the manufacturing and handling of the products, and you can put a mark up of whatever you would like on them, which is your profit. (I have a markup of $1 for most of the products, as they didn't take very much work on my part, you can mark yours up for whatever you like.) The basic store allows only one of each product to be customized and sold. If you have a number of images you would like added to posters and other products, you can do this by registering multiple stores. Once this is complete, please send me an email (jules@movingon.org) with a link to your store and your products. I will add them to the store front here, allowing people to browse and buy from the customised Moving On store. The proceeds from sales of your products will go directly to you. Some of the artists here are very talented in my unprofessional opinion, and I would totally buy posters from them. Let me know what you all think of this, and if you have any other ideas for how to accomodate trades and sales from our own community here. Other ideas might be advertising for professional services that participants here provide (my brother-in-law Rob has become an excellent web application developer, for example). If people are interested, this may be a interesting way to support each other, or find a reliable contractor for a need you or your business may have. Also, finding a manufacturer for Vandari products in Canada has been challenging. To have products developed in the US, shipped to me here, and then reshipped to customers will be an addititional expense. I am currently looking for someone who is in the US and interested in taking care of fulfilment for me. You will receive a percentage of the profits of any sales, and would need to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect the identity of customers. Thoughts and opinions on these ideas are appreciated. Jules |
