Getting Support : Get a Job

Help for someone with little or no job experience

I need to find a career consultant for my mum who's finally left.

So she left two years ago and hooked up with a financial manager for a mining company in a 3rd world country. He found her a job as a social development officer, a high level position she filled well. Too well, actually, her man turned out to be sociopathic and knowing her past became insanely jealous of her quick successes. Anyway to cut a two-year story of abuses, humiliation and unfaithfulness short he spread gossip about her and got her fired. Not only that, but when a rival firm tried to snatch her at double the salary he had someone phone them and "warn" them about her.

So now she is on the streets, with no one but myself to turn to. She would need a career consultant at this stage, someone to get a great CV together and point her in the right direction for such jobs.

I really don't know where to start, I'm in the IT industry and do my 50 hour a week deadline-chasing job, I don't know anything about social development positions in the mining industry.

Mum's a bit naive in the ways of the world and a bit too trusting, thats what got her into this predicament. Now she's lost and I really want to give her some practical help.

Any help, contacts or good websites are much appreciated. We've all been in this position at one time or another.

Regards
Ivan
