Getting Support : Get a Job

So what do you do???

from Haunted - Friday, August 27, 2004
accessed 1749 times

Just out of curiosity, and because there aren't enough options in the poll, what do you all do for "work"?

(I put that in quotation because some of our work is more like play what with all our movingon logging in, chatting and posting....)

OK, I just kinda wonder sometimes about the jobs we've all gotten ourselves into and I'm always curious where we've all ended up. Also, I find it fascinating how diverse our occupations have become and I'd also like to thumb my nose at all those who told me I would end up flipping burgers for a living (*not that there's anything wrong with that - my little sis worked at McDonalds when she was a teen).

So I'll start -

My job(s) is/are: Marketing/Yoga Instructor

*The above is the only disclaimer you'll get, and if you still can't have a sense of humor about it - go cry to someone else.....

Oh, and feel free to tell me how insipid and banal this post is and that I should stop wasting my time and go clean the house.... ;-)

But should our professions define us? More importantly, I'm not a girl, not yet a woman, I am someone's grand-daughter, the spitting image of my mother, sister to a brother, murderer to a mosquito, an object of affection to an imaginary person. I'm a bitch, I'm a tease, I'm a slut on my knees. I'm just a girl in the world. Hey yaaaaaa I'm california, Hey yaaaaaa I'm cherry cola. (reply to this comment

Our professions, like everything else we do in life DO define who we are to a certain point. Most importantly to the point of my article, they show what we've accomplished after emerging from a cult as uneducated teenagers who had grown up knowing only a separatist lifestyle.

The original article was written in response to a comment posted where someone from this site stated that everyone they knew who had left had become drug dealers and strippers. I felt that this comment served only to perpetuate the stereotypical Family attitude of what would become of all us "backsliders" and out of curiosity as well, I think it's interesting to find what the different people whose comments we read frequently spend most of their days doing....

However, back to your comment, quoting Britney Spears and other pop stars to define your own psyche and current state of mind is seriously sad....(reply to this comment

Marketing, as descried by the online dictionary, is:

To offer for sale.
To sell.

The means employed to accomplish this task may include [but is not limited to] handing out ads...

Haunted, just as a suggestion, maybe just to have it interesting, people should post their names, secondly, their primary profession and then their part-time/freelance work. or else, you end with up with a nameless, etc type position (HR Manager/Web Developer/Life Guard/Father), of "unknown professional" - which ends up doing nothing to the point you want to get with your article - "to thumb my nose at all those who told me I would end up flipping burgers for a living". - or end up sleeping on sidewalks or gutters.

So here's mine:

Frank
Main Profession: Senior Web Developer
When not at work: a single Father
