RISE news!

from Falcon - Monday, September 24, 2007
accessed 994 times

RISE International is a Community Interest Company that was formed on
June 1, 2007 shortly before the book release of 'Not Without My
Sister' (available on amazon.co.uk).

RISE International works to
protect children from abuse in cults. We advocate for children's human
rights and support those who seek justice for crimes committed against
them as minors in these groups.

For more information, please see our About Us page at
http://www.riseinternationalcic.org/about.php

Rise holds first directors conference

On August 25th and 26th, 2007, RISE held its first directors meeting
in Tucson, Arizona, to discuss and finalize our mission statement and
first year's goals.

Our long term objectives as an organization are:

Advocacy—for children's rights according to the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child, as specifically related to
children raised in cults.

Public Awareness—building on the success of second generation who
have
spoken out in the media, we want to highlight and bring to attention
children who fall through the net of social services and government
agencies whose job it is to safeguard children's safety. We will be
putting together presentations and materials that can be used to
educate law enforcement and educational establishments on second
generation (those born and/or raised in cults) issues and concerns.

Resources—develop and expand our resources in terms of information
and
networking available to second generation.

RISE is currently registered in the United Kingdom but we are in the
process of setting up in the U.S. as well. This will enable us to
operate both in the United Kingdom and in the United States first
before branching out further. Throughout the year we will be keeping
you updated on our progress towards these goals.

SPECIAL THANKS…

…to John Molloy and Jean for helping to sponsor our first directors
meeting. Your support was much appreciated and helped make the
conference possible.

UPCOMING Memorial day for second generation

We wanted to announce our plans to hold an International Memorial Day
for Second Generation children and adults who have passed from us. The
five tentative locations for this event will be held in– California,
London, Tokyo, Australia and Uganda. This memorial will not only be
for second generation members of The Family, but the many second and
even third generation members of other cults that have lost their
brothers or sisters or close friends through suicide, physical/mental
abuse and medical neglect, drug overdose and cultish fighting groups
such as the LRA in Northern Uganda. We would like to invite anyone who
would like to participate or help to organize this event to contact us
at contact@riseinternationalcic.org, and we will keep you updated on
the exact day (probably in August 2008).

CONFERENCES IN 2008

As part of raising awareness and the profile of second generation
challenges, RISE will be attending the following conferences next
year:

* Prevent Child Abuse: May 19-22, 2008

The exclamation point on "RISE news!" clearly shows that at least some cult influence is still present.

Yes Fish, I have a whole collection of pretty 'exclamation' specimens stolen directly from TF library. There's a whole bagful with your name on it you're welcome to borrow from anytime.(reply to this comment

Well now, that's pretty cool. Last night, the tittle to your article was "RISE news!" and as such I was forced to comment on it. Shortly after commenting, I noted with some amusement that it had been modified to "rise news". Now I see it has evolved to "rise news!", once again displaying the exclamation point, in a spirit of obvious defiance. I think you deserve some kind of writing assignment for backsliding from the path of my "wonder working words".

Fish, I must thank you for your entertaining contributions to this site. Your amusement is ultimately my amusement. Well, if you must know, I reposted the newsletter as one of my colleagues pointed out that I put up the unrevised version. The new version was without an exclamation, which was kindly pointed out to me, and which I promptly remedied so as to continue amusing both of us. However, would 100 lines of "I will not wander from the path of Fish's wonder working words." suffice? That should give me something to do during insomniac nights.
Oh yeh, who held the gun to your head? (reply to this comment

Fish, the titles to the articles are changed to lower-case on this page. But I think you can see them in title case some other way...not sure how it works.(reply to this comment

I wonder what you would consider "a life". Honestly, I'm really curious, so don't be shy; fill me in on whats trendy in texas or wherever you live. After that you should give me some pointers on how to become as cool as you obviously are.(reply to this comment

My dear Falcon, one should never pay attention when someone accuses one of "Familyisms" while concluding "Ha!" -- in good ole Mo fashion.

PTL! It's part of God's wonderful creation! Just like a beautiful woman! Just like the dribble on my beard! GBY Son, and thank you for reminding us Who REALLY owns the exclamation mark! Hallelujah? I think that would be a good title for this little paragraph, His exclamation! His ejaculation! How sweet. These simple little things that come to me in the small hours. So simple, yet so true! So praise God for the exclamation, and use it! Don't abuse it!(reply to this comment

Eew! Can't believe I allowed myself to be subjected to that! First I had to sit through an extremely vomit-worthy advertisement with some dude who looks like he stepped out of one of those horrific shows like The Bold and The Beautiful, then my ears came close to bleeding listening to that American newsreader unsuccessfully attempt to say Bondi Beach.
The reason I didn't tell you is because we have a far more suitable annual event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvh8c6_JdlU(reply to this comment

Are they still fanatically religious in Israel? Like, do they still stone you for working on the Sabbath, etc? I was rather surprised at the image they're putting out in that clip, but I suppose I just have a stereotyped picture of what it's probably like over there. I'd like to go check it out myself.(reply to this comment

According to this map, Israel does not have a death penalty except in rare occasions like crimes commited in time of war.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Death_Penalty_World_Map.png

So I guess that would mean that no, they won't stone you for working on the Sabbath.(reply to this comment

I'll do what I can to get to the Australian one. Just very difficult that it has to be in August. It would be much easier to organise in January or something...I'm just thinking about how to spread the word to Australian ex members, as so few of them frequent this site. If I'm in a position to at the time, I'll try to donate, but I don't think I'll be able to as travel and accommodation will use up so much money. I'm quite happy to offer services for organising it though.

Congratulations on your excellent start! Your goals are laudable, and your initial projects appear reasonable and meaningful. I personally look forward to participating in the Memorial event in California, and will encourage other SGA's to come along. Its also good to hear that you are planning to participate in the ICSA (International Cultic Studies Association) conference in Pennsylvania. They do have some limitations in understanding the SGA perspective, but they are willing to learn, and they represent one of the the very few significant international resources for our issues. Good work, RISE, you have my respect.
