Getting Support : Speaking Out
Conference in Orange, CA – June 13, 14 | from Jules - Wednesday, June 04, 2003 accessed 2139 times The American Family Foundation is holding a conference on June 13 and 14 on the topic of Understanding Cults and New Religious Movements. Professor Steven Kent (University of Alberta) will be presenting a paper on issues regarding the second generation of The Family, and I have been invited to give a presentation on this web site. I will be talking about my experiences with setting up and administering this site. It is very likely that Family spokespeople Marc and Claire will be in attendance, as they attend all of these sorts of conferences in North America. Many people know Marc from Mexico and the PI Jumbo, as he ran the teen programs there. Claire Borowick was in Argentina. If you are interested, details can be found here: http://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_events.htmhttp://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_events.htm">http://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_events.htm> Information on the location: http://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_facility.htmhttp://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_facility.htm">http://www.cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2003/aff_conference_2003_06ca_facility.htm> I was quite surprised when I was sent a note from a Family publication regarding this panel (GrapeVine 155). It’s a little jarring to have this immediately dismissed as “lies” when they do not even know what will be said. The extreme bias a statement like this shows is rather disconcerting. ********************************** Timely prayer request Anti-Family activist Stephen Kent will conduct an anti-Family session at the next AFF (American Family Foundation) conference to be held in Southern California June 13-14. Kent is on an all-out campaign to rally as many as possible to his cause. Please pray: *That Kent's attempts to rally former members or any others to fight the Family's good works will be stopped. *For protection of the innocent and hungry sheep and those seeking to know the truth. *Against any negative repercussions that could disrupt the Family's witnessing, outreach, and home life in any way. *That the academics attending the AFF will not be swayed by the lies they will hear at the conference. |

I wanted to say thanks to the people below for their support. I really do appreciate it. I am very excited to hear that Albatross has confirmed that he will also be presenting at this conference. He has a presentation on the Vandari response from the Family, and it seems that this will be a very interesting session. I will be staying nearby to Alby, so anyone wanting to get in touch while I am in LA should email him for details. I will be there June 12 - 15. (reply to this comment)

Miss Jules, Good luck at the conference! This is very benficial work you are doing. You are in my thoughts. I'm sure you will be as articulate and professional as you were when I saw you on In The Public Eye with Bryant Gumble. Remember, we have the truth on our side. So many voices of the Family's victims cannot be silenced. Besides, after all, when it comes right down to it, they're literally a cult of a bunch of pedophiles and child abusers who happen to be diluted into thinking they do "God's work" and that somehow justifies their crimes. And if they give you any problem, tell 'em to call your legal counsel! ;) (reply to this comment)
| from EyesWideShut Wednesday, June 04, 2003 - 11:00 (Agree/Disagree?) Good for you, Jules. You'll have to post a little something about the highlights when you get back. Truth be told, I'd love to be at something like this. How interesting. (reply to this comment)

Good luck Jules! I hope some good will come of this. While you can argue about religious freedom and cults right to exist, you can't argue with our stories, the psychological damage, the suicides, the ODs, the despair after leaving, the list goes on and on. How TF spokesperson will counter that evidence, I do not know. I guess you can say a cult is harmless as long as it's members don't have children. (reply to this comment)
