Getting Real : Speak your peace
A Normal Life? | from Christy - Saturday, September 27, 2003 accessed 1608 times The latest poll submitted by Eaglebleeds has brought up a question for me. One of the options to check off is whether you are "still a Christian and live a normal life". None of the other options mention a normal life. Not to get nit-picky, but how do you define a "normal life"? And why does it have to be associated with being a Christian. Many atheists, Buddhists, Jewish people, and what have you, life perfectly normal lives. So do many Christians. It's probably unnecessary for me to take offense with this poll, especially since its main flaw is that it's simply not very well written. I consider myself a Christian, yet I'm not sure if my life could be considered "normal". In some ways it is, I'm a college student, I have a steady job, I pay my taxes, etc. My friends and coworkers come from backgrounds that are very different from my own, yet at this time we have similar interests as well as similar problems. While it's certainly not rare to still be in school at my age, it's hardly the norm. Especially if you come from a background (such a my own) where most people in your family are well-educated middle to upper middle class. Anyway, I was wondering what others thought about this poll and the mentality that it represents. |

I try talking to my coworkers...thats a laugh, might as well tatoo freak on my forhead....sure I traveled and know different languages but I will forever be different and not for the best reasons. I adjust though and not all is bad but I end up alone because no one can relate to me (reply to this comment)
| from krush Saturday, October 25, 2003 - 02:39 (Agree/Disagree?) As an ex-member as it were. What is normal in this day and age. What are we measuring against to determine normal? Normality is such a subjective topic. (reply to this comment)
| from Eaglebleeds Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 01:55 (Agree/Disagree?) My explanation for "You're still Christian and live a normal life?". By normal life I meant living whatever life you choose, that's not in a cult, group, etc..... All the other religious and non-religious life styles are also normal. Just that if you're into something besides Christianity then you would've started that after leaving. We were brought up to believe in Jesus, the base of Christianity. And I know TF has a twisted version of Christianity but they're still called Christians like every other twisted group based on Christian teachings. My poll was vague and not detailed. My apologies. The reason for creating that poll was too find out how many of us are Christian. I should've also added who became Christian after leaving. I'd fit into that one. Hope this explains it. | from Joe H Monday, September 29, 2003 - 12:18 (Agree/Disagree?) One possible interpretation of the question is that he put the two ("Christian" and "normal life") together to imply that most christians don't lead normal lives, so it's unusual. Or, that it's unusual for exculties to leave and just settle nicely into mainstream Christianity. On a similar topic, I'd like to know what the f--k is up with these polls lately. Does anybody screen these things? Howcome all these religion-based ones can show up on the main page, but my Nancy poll languishes in obscurity. It makes me miss the Alf awards!
