I don't need to read a mediocre work of fiction to realize that Christianity is nothing but a bunch of primitive magical thinking and fear mongering. (reply to this comment)
| from live_fast-die_young Thursday, February 24, 2005 - 00:17 (Agree/Disagree?) Read it a couple of months ago after a friend reccomended it Initially I was intrigued by the historical references & the author's views on symbolism. However it was painfully obvious after just a page or two that Dan Brown really is a terrible writer from a literary point of view. I was so desperate to find out if he was really on to something that I forcibly dragged myself through the rest of his cheap blockbuster of a novel. Then I was given his next book Angels & Demons as a gift so decided to make another attempt at his book. Argh, I can be so stubborn! There's nothing in either one but unsubstantiated rumours of conspiracy & menancing pale-faced evil-doers who hide behind closed doors & whisper of plans to, guess what....TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!! Oh yes... and beautiful, sophisticated European women. Cliche anyone? (reply to this comment)
| From ameliaus Thursday, June 16, 2005, 17:48 (Agree/Disagree?) you are funny - in a good way - i too dragged through, and for the same reason. A lot of us truth seekers knew much of this materiel, but I have to say it is educational for the masses (people, not catholic services). That it was presented as positive towards the actual life of Christ and in some ways even positive towards today's Vatican (sincerity), was the second triumph of the book, in that it wasn't divisive (think 'new age'). The first was that it is written for the level we personally find annoying - for those that haven't sought alternate angles on their own. Actually, once I got that it was a NOVEL, I relaxed and more or less enjoyed it. He's not Michael Crichton.(reply to this comment) |
| | from geo Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 06:25 (Agree/Disagree?) I only got through about half the book and had to put it down. The writer just wasnt very good. The characters where very one sided and boring and I thought the story was, well, corny. There are already many books on this subject matter, both academic and fiction, some of them are pretty good but a lot of them just suck. The divinci code isnt very good if your interested in the facts and the history surrounding the story. If youre only interested in the fictional side of history you'd probably get a better read out of an anne rice book. (reply to this comment)
| from proro Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 00:00 (Agree/Disagree?) Having read the davinci code book several times, I've got a few things to say. 1, yes everyone should read it. 2. keep in mind that it is a work of fiction. 3. having read the davinci code, now you need to go out and get the book "cracking the davinci code" a thin book explaining what all the symbols both hidden and otherwise are, where they are, whether they exist or not. I found this book to be an eye opener. I've recommended it to several people still in TF that I have contact with and they said that they wouldn't even be bothered to look at this piece of literary blasphemy. There are none so blind as those who have no eyes! Anyway...like I said check out "cracking the davinci code" enjoy (reply to this comment)
