There was, as you well know, absolutely nothing original in Berg's prejudices, whether directed towards Jews, Blacks or whoever else. I recall that most of his racism took the form of those wonderfully entertaining dreams that he professed to have had. The content of these 'dreams' tended to pretty much correlate mainstream white phobias and ignorance; for instance, he claimed to see a white tea party symbolising 'civilised' white South Africa, being overturned by black 'jungle savages', or he dreamed that he was being chased by black thugs who stick a hypodermic needle into him. It's not difficult to dissect some of the basic roots of his racism: he often referred to blacks as rapists, which of course has a particular relevence to his generation, given the prevalence of white 'penis envy' (reinforced by the fact that he spent so much time glorifying his own). As far as his Anti-semitism, he simply recycled and revitalised the millenia-old conspiracy theories to suit his own paranoia. Racism is probably the least unusual thing about Berg. Does anyone remember him claiming that the Japanese must be part Jewish- or how else could they be so clever?

Interestingly, there are some people in Japan who believe Japanese do come from the Jews.

This is some argument based on the similarities between the Jewish faith and Shintoism. I never bothered to study those far-fetched theories. Methinks I might borrow my grandads books and look into it.(reply to this comment

I've heard it said that every character we meet in a dream is us. It is nothing more than our own subconcious and character in the guise of a familiar or unfamiliar face.

When you look at it this way, it gives Berg's dreams an entirely new and dark level.(reply to this comment

Why was Berg so Anti-sematic? Thinking about it now, its almost a little funny. His irrational hatred for them was so 40s. I remember as a kid, the word "Jew" was equated to the word "evil", I seriously thought that Jews were the spawn of hell, and this asumption was based on the mad writings of a real hater. Shows how irrational prejudice is spread. I really wonder why he was like this. Anyone have any hypothesis'? His own fucking name was authentically Jewish.

Actual Excerpt:

"Allegations of Racial Discrimination Unfounded [...] it is very important to note the unanimous denial of the prosecuted when questioned if amongst them there exists any kind of discrimination towards the Jewish religion or black race, or towards any other group. Some of them even clarified that in their communities " discrimination exists, neither toward those who are within 'The Family' nor toward those who are without"; ... "that this community is precisely a classic example of multiracial communal living, since people of different countries and races live under the same roof"; "...that every person, without prejudice of his/her nationality or colour is a human being deserving full respect...."

And of course, we all know that the most reliable statements are those of the prosecuted or accused, most especially denials are reliable.

I think some of his beliefs stemmed from the era he grew up in, the hatred of Jews and belief that black people were cursed because of the sins of Ham. He also preached against the stock market because his grandfather lost everything in the depression. Maybe because he pulled out of the mainstream and kept to himself and his own 'revelations' he therefore didn't keep up with the current trends in certain beliefs, in particular regarding the Jews and blacks.
He did renounce his teachings regarding blacks shortly before he died, saying he had been wrong. I remember cause it really shook me, it was one of the first times I not only thought, but allowed that thought to remain in my mind, that if he had been wrong on this, what else was he wrong about? It scared me, I just wish I'd left at that point.(reply to this comment

If I remember correctly, Berg originally wanted the COG to be all living together in Israel. When he arrived in Israel, people must have sensed his creepiness and not treated him as well as he wanted them to. Berg then had some vision where everyone on the streets turned into demons. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the letter that came out with this information. He was also thereafter very disillusioned and increasingly anti-Semitic.(reply to this comment

Would it be possible that he (Berg), got totally disolussioned and halucinated from the fact that he had taken LSD? I wouldn't be surprized from what I remember in that "Mo letter", him seeing the mirage of people faces turnning in monsters and creepy weird alienated creatures.

I recall someone who had lived in his house during the Tenerrife era, telling me the whole space city thing was a night out on POT and Weed, just a stoned up stoner.(reply to this comment

If I remember correctly from one of James Penn's articles, some people in WS were actually asked to find something in the bible regarding this to get Mr. Berg to tone down his racist rhetoric.(reply to this comment
