from Information on FCF - Thursday, January 27, 2005 accessed 4661 times Angela Smith, who was recently murdered on January 9th by Rick Rodriguez, was a Director of the Family Care Foundation (www.familycare.org) and a long-term member of the religious sect the Family. She also acted as nanny to Rodriguez while he was growing up in the cult. Rodriguez took his own life shortly afterwards and claims in a video made prior to the murder / suicide that it was carried out as an act of vengeance for the continuous sexual abuse and violence which he, his sister and his peers had suffered whilst growing up in the Family (Children of God). Rodriguez was the son of the cult’s leader Karen Zerby, commonly known to members as “Mama”. The links between the recent murder, the Family Care Foundation and the Family itself are largely unknown. Grant Montgomery lived with Karen Zerby (known as Mama / Maria), the now deceased Rodriguez and other inner circle cult members in secretive homes from 1984 – 1996. Comparatively little is known about Lawrence Corley though he is reputed to have been heavily involved in the Family’s legal defense in dozens of law suits during the 1990’s. Angela Smith was chef and personal secretary to the cult’s founder David Berg for almost 20 years. An online expose of the connection between the FCF and the Family can be found here: http://www.exfamily.org/cgi-bin/gf.pl?fmt=dyn&t=history&m=2&s=&r=hist/fcf_and_the_family_cog.shtml Child sex abusers working through the FCF See the following link: http://www.movingon.org/article.asp?sID=1&Cat=31&ID=2480 FCF’s application for tax-exemption In the Family Care Foundation’s 1997 IRS form 1023 application for tax exemption there is an omission of significant importance on page 6. Available at: http://www.familycare.org/pdf/1023.pdf Mr Lawrence Corley executive Director of the Family Care Foundation ticked the box marked No where the applicant is asked: “Is this organisation the outgrowth (or successor to) another organisation or does it have a special relationship by reason of interlocking directorates or other factors?” There is a significant amount of documents originating from The Family itself to prove the special relationship between the FCF and the Family. The omission is obviously especially relevant considering the Family’s / Children of God’s history with the international police over child sexual and physical abuse. |
