(There's a lot more to Zug, Switzerland than meets the eye, read the following excerpts from this new article.)

By CLARE NULLIS Associated Press Writer
ZUG, Switzerland, Mar 05, 2001 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Zug has bloomed into Switzerland's wealthiest state, its prettily preserved old town surrounded by plush office towers and bustling factories and its suburbs home to hundreds of millionaires.

Rich and a handful of other ambitious commodities traders arrived in Zug in the early 1970s to make their fortunes on oil markets.

He made the town his home in 1983 to avoid an indictment by a U.S. federal grand jury on more than 50 counts of fraud, racketeering, trading with Iran during the U.S. Embassy hostage crisis and evading more than $48 million in income taxes - crimes that could have earned him more than 300 years in prison.

Switzerland doesn't regard tax evasion as a crime and, as a neutral country, didn't have any embargo against Iran and so it refused to treat Rich as a crook or hand him over to the United States despite strong

There are an estimated 2,000 millionaires among Zug's 100,000 inhabitants. While his offices are in Zug, Rich lives in nearby Meggen, a suburb on Lake Lucerne's "Gold Coast," whose residents include Russian pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy and Irish flutist James Galway as well as wealthy industrialists and lawyers.

Zug doesn't seem particularly concerned America's formerly most wanted fugitive has agreed to sell his Marc Rich & Co. Investments to Russian-owned Crown Resources and retire from most of his business activities.

In all, some 20,000 companies are registered in Zug, including 1,000 new firms last year alone.

Foreign companies are attracted by the educated labor force, top schools, the proximity of the economic hub of Zurich, the quality of life surrounded by lakes and mountains, and above all Zug's famously low taxes.

"We are the state with by far the lowest taxes," Bisig says proudly in an interview in the government's airy headquarters. "The taxpayer is always treated as a valued customer rather than as someone who owes us a debt or is a potential tax evader."

"There is the danger that shady firms will come to Zug because they know that they can hide in the mass of other new companies and the police and legal system simply won't be able to cope," he says.

Lang fears the expansion of Crown, one of Russia's largest financial industrial conglomerates, may provide a cover for Russian organized crime - but stresses there's no evidence Crown is under mob influence.

Bisig says he's confident local authorities can ensure that all the companies stay within the law.

Until now, there haven't been any problems, he insists. He points to the local jail visible from his third-floor office and says none of the inmates are linked to financial or tax crimes.

And, as for Zug's most notorious financier, he adds, "Like everyone else, Marc Rich has always complied with Swiss law."

Rich was even more in the news when Clinton controversially gave him a pardon a few days before leaving the White House. You can google if you want to look up the whole story, there's still lots of unanswered questions and intrigue.

So it's not one bit of a suprise TF dons picked out Zug to bank in and to set up Aurora for a place to stash away their extra money.

This guy is a Russian and the US govt still got him in Switzerland! For money laundering and some sort of tax thing. So: they don't have to be Swiss for US authorities to get them, they do have to have broken major US laws. Stashing $ donated for charity/non profit is against the law. Switzerland doesn't personally care, though. I think they'll cut them loose if its too much bad publicity.

I'm thinking maybe getting the govt. to take on persecuting them for the abuses - as a PR thing for them - could work.(reply to this comment

Right now the U.S Senate Committee on Finance (http://finance.senate.gov/index.html) is looking into new legislation to curb abuses in the charitable sector and holding hearings on Charity oversight and reform.

For anybody interested in letting them know about the Family Care Foundation/Aurora/Activated money laundering scheme for the unregistered organization "The Family," which has criminal elements in its past, you can contact the Senate Finance Committee and ask them to look into this abuse. You can even submit a statement so that your views can be included on the Hearing Record. The information is:

Committee On Finance
219 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-6200

Majority Phone: (202) 224-4515
Minority Phone: (202) 224-5315

Statements for the Record: Any individual or organization wanting to present their views for inclusion in the hearing record should submit a typewritten, single-spaced statement, not exceeding 10 pages in length. Title and date of the hearing, and the full name and address of the individual or organization must appear on the first page of the statement. Statements must be received no later than two weeks following the conclusion of the hearing.

Statements should be mailed to:

Senate Committee on Finance
Attn. Editorial and Document Section
Rm. SD-203

With all due respect, what are we trying to do here? Are you suggesting to submit to the SCOF some dubious info about an obscure NGO in Switzerland. What proof about any alleged wrongdoing do we haveon Aurora? Where's the proof, who's accusing, on what evidence. And why should a Washington based Senate Committee be interested in a Swiss based Foundation.

I'm sorry folks, but if this is all we have to pursue, we really don't have much to pursue, don't we? Who cares about Aurora? I certainly don't, neither does the SCOF, I believe. Aurora is just mainly pushing "tools", CDs, Video and whatnot. Perfectly legitimate, just like any other company selling things. I believe we're barking up the wrong tree.(reply to this comment

The Mafia also have "perfectly legitimate" business that they set up for various reasons, whether to launder money or for tax purposes. "Who cares about Aurora?" you ask. People who don't like the idea of perverts making money, that's who! Never mind the fact that the CDs and videos preach a wacky religious message, they also violate so many standards of good taste that the Fashion Police have had a death warrant out for the producers for quite some time!

Whatever this org is, it is important. Chris Smith is the legal name of Peter Amserdam, aka Steve Kelly. Kevin Brown is the ( new) legal name of Jeremy Woods, whose legal name formerly was Terry Martin. Thomas Mestyanek is the legal name of Shemariah Books, top WS bookkeeper and accountant -- one of the few people besides Smith and Zerby who knows where the $ are. Sean Mullen is Francis Fisherman, a 30 something ass-kisser who is right up there with Zerby -- for a long time. Ernst Steiner is a Swiss FGA -- has been used as president of Kinder Gottes in Switzerland 2o years ago -- a drone, but useful for this kind of biz, as they probably need one national. Don't know about Darley, and Furusjo Claes is a Swiss dude FGA, whose Fam name escapes me, but has been active in WS finances for a long time, both in Hong Kong and Europe. He helped set up Aurora. Whatever this org is, if it is active, it bears watching, as these are all heavy hitters. (reply to this comment

Highly interesting. Somebody below says this org is where they funnel tithes. Funny thing is that the tithes are for The Family, which last I heard does not exist as an entity, its closest legal embodiment being Family Care Foundation or Activated.

You know something is rotten in Denmark when so many of these people have to change their names because of the red, red flags their original names would raise among those they abused.(reply to this comment
