Getting Out : Leaving
Need Help on Research Survey | from Tori - Wednesday, October 26, 2005 accessed 1614 times Hello my name is Victoria Schraeder. Although I am not a former member of the Children of God, I was born into another similar cult which some of you might know, I'SOT. My mother was placed there, her name is Camille Schraeder and my father was there for recovery. I never had to live the horror that my mother and many other family members had to but I was not uneffected by its brutality. Therefore I have been interested in the cult phenomenon for many years and I finally have the oppurtunity to study them empirically. I am in a research class were I was able to pick a topic to research and also create and administer a survey where I will then be able to draw conclusions which will help me write my final analysis. The topic I have chosen to study is how cult affiliation effects former cult members. This is why I have come to you all. I'SOT has an obvious propensity for producing cult researches who study at universities in California and gather data for their theses by trolling cult survivor sites. (reply to this comment)
| From GoldenMic Thursday, October 27, 2005, 13:57 (Agree/Disagree?) Yeah, its a glaring and "obvious propensity" when two, yes, two whole people from the same cult go to colleges in the same state where the cult is, and then write research papers that reflect some part of their cult experience. I am sure you were intending to appear clever and insightful with this comment, which you only accessed because you were gauche enough to be "trolling" here at Moving On, but in any case, to me you came off rude and exclusionary. | | | from sarafina Wednesday, October 26, 2005 - 23:11 (Agree/Disagree?) Well, I’d like to help you out but first I feel I should point out that this is a “Second Generation” website. Which means the first part of your survey is completely inapplicable to us. We never “Joined” the cult. To get answers on that you might want to post your survey on the “First Generation” sites such as exfamily.org or newdaynews.com or at least wipe that first question out completely for this site. The rest of the questions are fine. (reply to this comment)

Also when you broached the question of sexual abuse, the following questions were mental abuse questions. Also when asking about what affected(affect, not effect) us most, the last two options were "neither" and "both", when there were four options. Besides that I think it's great and I wish you the best of luck! Bear in mind that I don't mean to appear rude; it's just a little constructive criticism.(reply to this comment) |
