The Poll
Marc, why am I listed on the poll? Did you run out of possible answers? :-)

| Marc, April 11, 2002, 17:11 RE: The Poll Jules: Since for some people who recently left the most important thing in their life is Moving On and this Site allows a place for them to see how others did it, I thought that you (as the creator) should get some credit. Besides, everyone seems to think you "rock" and "are cool," etc. As for the "Me" in the Poll . . . I ran out of ideas. (reply to this post) | | Jules, April 12, 2002, 21:34 RE: The Poll Umm... Thanks Marc. I was just a bit concerned about my name being on a "most important in life" list. That's usually about the time I get a restraining order. :-) Seriously, I have been amazed at the participation on this site. It is a very small demographic (in internet terms), we have been live for less than a year, but there are now 500 - 700 visitors a day. I personally strive to overcome so much and have felt isolated in regards to this stuff for so many years. I am truly grateful for the things that people have shared here. Many things that other people have written have helped me personally tremendously. Sometimes it's hard to know what to say in response, and perhaps just knowing there is someone else out there who can really and truly understand is enough. I think the level of intelligence and integrity that is apparent on this site speaks volumes as to who we are, and to the indomitable strength of the human spirit. Despite the odds, we are succeeding. It's so great to know that none of us are alone in our struggle. We have a lot to be proud of and I really do think that we "totally rock"! :-) (reply to this post) | | Sunny, April 11, 2002, 19:39 RE: The Poll I didn't realize that "me" meant Ian. Does Ian put the polls together? (reply to this post) | | Marc, April 11, 2002, 21:16 RE: The Poll No. The "Me" in the "What is most important in life." Poll is Marc. I put the Poll together. I know, I know, it wasn't that imaginative. What I was really interested in is how many people rate Money above Education. In fact, the way I see it is: Education brings Money, and Money CAN bring Happiness. No, I am _not_ saying that in order to be happy you have to have money. What I am saying is that happiness usually comes when you are doing exactly what you want to do, where you want to do it, and when. Thus, it follows, if you have lots of money you will be able to do what you want, when you want, and where you want . . . happiness is the result (?). Any comments on this? Am I way off? (reply to this post) | | kiki, April 12, 2002, 02:52 RE: The Poll I agree with Marc .... Education brings money and money defenetly can bring happiness! and as Paulo Freire says .... "Education is the only way to be free".... I totally agree with that! (reply to this post) | | Ike, April 26, 2002, 18:12 RE: The Poll I liked your poll, who is Paulo Freire? It was really interesting... (reply to this post) | | kiki, April 30, 2002, 12:38 RE: The Poll Hi Ike , Paulo Freire is one of my favorite writers , I 've been reading a lot of his books while doing MA in Education ,I'll tell you a bit about him ( He died in 97) , He was more than just a techer at Harvard and a consultant and Assistant Secretary of Education for the World Council; Freire's life and work as an educator is optimistic in spite of poverty, imprisonment, and exile. He is a world leader in the struggle for the liberation of the poorest of the poor: the marginalized classes who constitute the "cultures of silence" in many lands. On a planet where more than half the people go hungry every day because nations are incapable of feeding all their citizens, where we cannot yet agree that every human being has a right to eat and to be housed, Paulo Freire toils to help men and women overcome their sense of powerlessness to act in their own behalf. His legacy of commitment, love and hope to American educators can be found in the critical pedagogy which infuses hundreds of "grass roots" organizations, college classrooms, and most recently school reform efforts in major urban areas. If you want to know more check out his site , www.paulofreire.org/ . Of course, the biggest security is financial, and to gain financial security you need to be educated and then you'll be happy. Maybe I voted for the wrong thing? (reply to this post) | | Lauren, April 12, 2002, 02:28 RE: The Poll I think that money definitely helps, but it can backfire too. If you have too much of it, you can lose your desire to strive for something and in the end, be just as unhappy as if you don't have enough money to do what you want. But I guess none of us have that problem (too much). As a friend of mine once said (although I don't know if the quote was his originally or not): "Money can't buy love, but it sure ups the odds." The recent downtime was due to a well orchestrated attack by The Family, NDN and the CIA!! (Actually I just forgot to pay the hosting bill. :-) Sorry for any inconvenience to the users of this site--we're back baby!)

About the online store
This is mostly meant as entertainment and I am not trying to commercialise this site. The site that the store is set up with, (cafepress.com) has a variety of products that they sell and allows you to set up a store and upload images for customised products for free. They handle ordering, manufacturing, and shipping. They charge a base price and anything above that goes to the store owner--I get $1 per product. This would go towards the cost of running this site (which is currently only $12.50 p/m anyways, and not exactly breaking my budget). If you have ideas for other products, send me your slogans or images, and I'll upload them.

I would buy most of the products, except that I'm abroad and it's a lengthy (and expensive) process to have them shipped over... what a shame. (reply to this post) | | Amanda, February 22, 2002, 11:42 RE: About the online store Hey Jules, I think the store is great!!!! Fab idea.
