Posers and other lame creatures...
How are we mixing "hard rock" and gothic or death metal together in the same category in this week's poll??   (reply to this post)

re.gifChristian, October 26, 2004, 22:42
family music wtf????
I'd like to know who the hell is still listening to family music!!! The poll shows over 5% still listen to family music even more than hiphop and R&B. Come on hiphop may be bad but not that bad!

Reggae seekin justice
And what about Reggae. How could someone leave that out.

re.gifThe Pedantic Prick, October 28, 2004, 09:26
Cause it's not music?
Just a thought

re.gifShackled, November 1, 2004, 21:47
To you, I can see why.
It really depends on the listener.

Nope, not reggae
Bob Marley's music isn't really reggae. It's rock-steady. Sorry.

Trenchtown
Yeah, save your pedantic-ness for the word warriors,Prick. Music genre reminders are not really respected from someone who does not even own a CD or an appliance for listening to said CD. And if I am not mistaken (which I usually am) Rock steady is the Jamaican (or other island) term for raggae.

re.gifThe Pedantic Prick, October 28, 2004, 15:14
"pedantic-ness" is not a word
The word I believe you were looking for was "pedantry". One Love!

Now THAT's reggae for you! ; P

"Red, Red Wine!"
Good song but they kind of died out.

re.gifVicky, October 28, 2004, 13:56
'Can't Help Falling In Love' reminds me of my restaurant singing days!
I was kidding, actually : )

UB40 are generally known as the UKs premier reggae band, but from what I understand purists consider their music far too lightweight and 'poppy' to qualify as authentic reggae.

As far as I'm concerned it's cool for easy listening once in a while, except for the fact that every time I hear that blasted song I am overcome with embarrassment at the idea of having been such a shameless beggar in my day, LOL!

Got you!
Actually, I was one of the two people (do the *math) who chose "Family music" and I did it as a joke to see if it would ruffle anyone's feathers. Nice to see that it worked. Get a life, ha ha ha! ;)

But seriously, "Christian", before you get on the case of the people who are "still listening to Family music", why don't you do something about your peculiar little hang-up of STILL believing in Jesus?

*At the time of this posting, the current poll results show that 4.17 percent of 48 respondents, or 2 people, chose Family Music as the style they listen to the most.

re: what?
Alright, you're ok then. I actually think Christian is a cool-sounding name, despite its unfortunate religious overtones.

Lucky Few
It's the same 5 people who either didn't work as a kid in The Family or were given a choice to play or get schooling instead. They have fonder memories than the rest of us.

The rebellious corporal does it again..
okay, so one fine October morning atfer the flag raising ritual, our second lietenant makes me herd my platoon into the main lecture hall, where we sit in silence for an hour listening to the new general talk out of his ass. God, I'd love to be a general just to have the opportunity to speak my mind to lots of people, I'd probably let them know my political interests and new laws I'd like to see enacted(like making it illega for all females over 10yrs and under 86 to wear clothes on thurdays, and other fine ideas to put men back in charge, goddammit!). Anyways, we get through this hour of torture, thank fuck it's over, but no, they haven't quite finished with us yet, of we go to another hall for more indoctrinaton. Some old fart of a lieutenat colonel wanting to let us know of the great carrier opions available to us if we sign up for another year. We couldn't give a shit, so we chat about things that interest us much more like weed transactions and strip clubs, unheeding the colonel's yells for silence. After after two hours of hot air, we are dismissed and home leave for the weekend is revoked for the entire company, even for those like me who kept silent and simply daydreamed about inflicting medival torture on these heathen officials.

wait, gotta run, i'll finish in a sec..  (reply to this post)

re.gifpharmaboy, October 8, 2004, 01:45
cont.
That does it, in their lazyness they punished the whole company, instead of singling out, one at a time, the guily ones, somthing they could have done easily, in the room there was 2 colonels, 2 captains and a lieutenant. They weren't listening to me, a lowly corporal anyways. It was the worst they could have done, the company has never been more divided, everyone blaming the other for the punishment. The truth is they know fuckall about motivating people, or even how to be a leader and inspire obedience. Their essenially top-down, burocratic system fears the masses at the bottom of the hierarchic pyramid, and we can smell that fear a mile away. So wrote about their decadence and analyzed the effects of the action taken, including past ones, printed it out, and slipped it under the colonel's door. All hell has broken loose here, the truth hurts. And 150 angry, young boys locked up for the weekend will cause a lot of trouble. I think conflict and confusion is fun though. I intend to get rowdly drunk, and encourage others to do the same, statistically speaking, 40-50 drunk people are bound to cause some trouble, don't ya think?

Random thoughts and ponderings on the "Family" pictures.
I took a couple minutes to browse the pictures from the link provided for some of the family youth. What a wealth of comments sprang to mind. Don't mind me just I'm tipping the bottle and enjoying myself on this one.

* I wonder what Jim Caviezel thinks about a cult wanking off to his "jesus" persona?
* "I'm sooooo revolutionary! Don't mind the fact that I dress and behave in the exact manner for which I am about to proceed in trashing you for. Oh yeah--jesus loves you--really he does!"
*"Can you give us a donation and blab off a little memorized prayer that way we can simultaneously afford our fancy tattoos, earings, vacations and cosmetics AND claim your soul on our TRF report!"
* What the bloody hell is the "family" doing with a beer tap in one of their homes??? Is that to help them with their 8 oz rationing? And I thought beer was a no-no?
*There is a shocking lack of sunglasses variety and a shocking abundance of half dressed slutty teen girls. Hey girls--God bless but we passed out of the 80's makeup styles and blue smeared eye shadow and tight black tube skirts quite a few years ago--but hey you must know that if you have an Orlando Bloom poster on your wall--right?
*seriously, words are failing me......

They are all "so yesterday" - hahaha!
Dude, I'm so totally with you - didn't we stop wearing purple lipstick in the early 90's?? A thought about the artwork - so basically, they're allowed to draw anything as long as they say it's about the lord or fighting the devil. I remember the days when ....oh well, we all know what happened to doodlers back then. Oh, and yeah, since when was the cult allowing its' teens to get tattoos?? Once again, I'm shocked at the fact that they can afford things through lying and deceiving others that we all work so hard for now!!

How I love Psy trance!!!
I'm sitting here and Di.fm is blasting away some wicked psy trance. Its tantalizing, hypnotic bassline is driving me crazy, and it just never let's up, ever! All I can do is hop in my seat making wierd facial expressions that go with the mood ofthe music and circling my arms above my head. When it starts to get even harder, with that acid TR303 screaming and a jumpy beat I'll find myself standing up hopping to the beat while miming cartoon-like animal gestures(an angry gorrilla, a crwaling iguana, a confused preying mantis) in a video-loop type way, looking like a total idiot while a crowd of Marshalls and a captain peep through the the open doorway, shaking their heads and asking themselves what has become or the youth of today. It's the groove, bru, I can't help myself, that steady, marching buildup, and all those twirly, spinning sound samples. It can be angry, dark, brooding, euphoric, insane or just that simple dance-or-die march.....oh, I just can't get enough....How can those uncultured apes tell me that it all sounds the same?? That pop disco shit they listen too, mixed by DJ pentium 4, and insipid beyond description, that standard verse-chorus-buildup-breakdown-verse-chorus shite which I would be embarrassed to play in a retirement home, how can that be music?

Well, I just had to let you all know how I feel about full on psy-trance. Not to be mistaken for horrid minimal goa trance, that music is a disease, listen to it 18 hours straight and you might actually start liking it, ughhhh. All those hippy noises get nauseating after a while. It's VERY important not to get the two mixed up, we can't let that disease spread now, can we?  (reply to this post)

re.gifpharmaboy, September 23, 2004, 03:19
psy
Goa(sometimes called minimal, psytekk) is slower than full on(around 135bpm), the beat is composed almost exclusively of a bass drum, no kick or snare to give it a much needed edge. It's WAY too prog, fuckall buildups and very long breakdowns. The samples are usually fuzzy. It just generally has a bland personality. I could see it being used at the beginning of a set and then progressing to full on, but 12 hours of goa just doesn't go anywhere. This stuff is only for messy hippies.

Psy trance(also known as full on, power goa) is some of the best electronica out there IMO: layered, complex, but also hard and energetic. When mixed properly it finds the perfect balance between anthemic buildups and progressive groove, too much of the first and you have cheesy commercial kak, too much of the second and things just get ridiculously boring. Usually it's around 140bpm, but often mixed at 150.

Lost Pastors
Who in the hell is this Maverick guy? I mean, did he get lost and stumble on to this site while drinking too much gin??? I checked out his site out of curiosity and I'm sorry I did - now I need to go cleanse myself with the pure waters of the word (and by that I mean I need to go watch Don Juan DeMarco again so I can forget everything and blissfully dream of Johnny Depp) - LOL!
