On here Korn translate serious angst into good music. Songs like "Freak On A Leash", "Got The Life" and "It's on" offer proof that rap-metal had some feeling in it before the style got out of hand. Later on, a throng of horrendous imitators who lack even a fraction of their talent would overshadow Korn. But here they sound fresh and in command. 9)METALLICA : 'Ride The Lightning' - Perhaps the biggest Metal band ever, Lars Ulrich and company may have gone by the wayside musically since the 1991 'Black' album, but they certainly can look back at the historical influence of their albums 'Kill Em All', 'Master Of Puppets', 'And Justice For All'. The slightly weak production does nothing to hinder an absolute monster of a record that just pounds from start to finish. 8)QueensRyche-Empire: For heavy metal that makes you think, Queensryche is unbeatable. On 1991's Empire they mix the political ("Empire", "Resistance") with the personal ("Jet City Woman", "Silent Lucidity") and create a prog-metal masterpiece. 7)Death--The Sound Of Preseverance: Is the best offering from this LA band that started the Genre that bears the same name as they do. Chuck Schuldiner (RIP), was at his best here, the production loud, and technical. This producing style "Technical Death/Hybrid Core", is imitated by many band to this day. Metal as Tight as DLR's spandex. 6)Katatonia-Viva Emptiness: The latest installment from these Swedish Doom/Gothic/ Prog. Metal Kings. Not produced as well as their previous effort (Last Fair Deal...), but this (More than ever), establishes them among Metal Elitest. Katatonia has to be the Most Underrated band ever. 5)Meshuggah-Nothing: All I can say is listen to these guys. Goddamn, Frederik Thordendal must be from outerspace. 4)Nile-In Their Darkened Shrines: These N.Carolina Monsters have cornered the Egytian Themed Metal Market. Karl has to be one of the most insperational musicians, he has been contacted by Harvard professors concerning Egyptian Philosyphy, translations etcetera. He not only goes 2 great lengths in researching his lyrics/beliefs, but this is Technical Death Metal at it's best. A few tracks should have been selected for The Mummy Returns or The Scorpion King, to expose such a gem. U can listen 2 tracks on MP3.com The guitar work is unearthly and raw, yet a pleasure 2 the ears. 3)Cradle Of Filth-Damnation & A Day: Although copycats of the genre and revolution that Emperor PERFECTED!!! Englands COF, have become the Black Metal/Blaspheme Core, Poster Boys, and contrary 2 latter albums, this album has POWER and lacks nothing! The lyrics blend ever-so-good with the eerie keyboards and overproduced guitar and skins....Dani & crew have come away from the "Cartoonishly Funny, bear hugging, Lolita Porn" image they displayed when exploding on-2 the scene. I know take them seriously. 2)Coal Chamber-Self Titled: It's sad 2 say that this is probably the best they can do. it's a GREAT Album, and was on the # 1 Charts (College Radio), and was the 1st RoadRunner artist 2 go # 1 on BillBoard and sell Platinum in 2 weeks. Beating Even legends like Mercyful Fate and deicide. Loco is a Strong track, Pig and Clock as well. 1) Emperor--IX Equilibrium: Jazz in Metal? Well, it's BETTER trhan Jazz. Ihsahn, is a MASTER!! (Bow, Fucker, Bow)!! And he was NOT afraid 2 Push the boundaries...."An Elegy of Icaros" is an example of Musical GENIUS as well as Mythological perfection and accuracy. Altough NOT My top List of albums, it's a GREAT 4 U starters. Septic Flesh is also a GREAT Black/Power Metal Group From Greece. Real serious Metalers. Check out Evolution DNA.....A MAsterPiece from These New World SocratesEsSSSSS!!! |
