Getting Through : Lighten Up
Hackers Unite | from shikaka - Monday, March 14, 2005 accessed 1243 times I was appalled when I googled "Ricky Rodriguez" the other day, and discovered a link to mydelusion.com on the very top of the sponsored links. What really made me sick to my stomache was the fact that it was touted to be a website for "remembering ricky rodriguez".. Now I have limited internet knowledge, but I do know that those sponsored links cost a pretty penny, and the advertisers pay for every hit that is generated by that search, or something to that effect. Please Please could one of you computer geniuses write a program that will generate billions of hits/searches a day, and force the cult to REALLY PAY for their sick idea of advertisement. |

I have friends in the "netherlands" which can help out. In fact I also have a bag full of tips and tricks that people can use - pretty nasty and untraceable one`s. Hee-hee. (reply to this comment)
| from jpmagero Monday, March 14, 2005 - 23:43 (Agree/Disagree?) It would be wrong to try to mount an attack on their site via some PPC overload, they have the right to advertise and have a presence as much as any of us do. That you do not agree with them using his name as a keyword does not make what they are doing sick. As a point of interest, I did a google on his name, and their site did not come up in the first two pages at all, not even as a payed result. Top result was: www.movingon.org/ ricky / and the only sponsored link was from www.xfamily.org (reply to this comment)
| from Craven de Kere Monday, March 14, 2005 - 15:30 (Agree/Disagree?) 1) Those ads are not expensive. Except when exer sites compete for the search strings it's 5 cents a click. 2) What you are asking for is illegal. For MovingOn.org to host it is risky as well under a few pretty powerful laws. 3) Google would filter the clicks out easily. Successfull PPC fraud is usually done by humans (in third world countries) paid to click on them through proxy servers. 4) MovingOn.org, xFamily.org and several sites by ex-member also use adwords and these would be the target of retaliatory click fraud. 5) Those folk have a right to attempt to disseminate their point of view. That it's diametrically opposed to yours is unremarkable. It happens. CdK (Grey Hat) (reply to this comment)
| From Peter Monday, March 14, 2005, 23:09 (Agree/Disagree?) You are right about that. It would be unethical, ineffective and counterproductive to try to artificially inflate their advertising bill. Although many good sites are already at the top of the list of non-sponsored results without any organized effort, it may be a good idea to do more to keep them at the top. Search google for santorum and you will get an idea of how effective this can be. I think this technique is more credible and effective than paying per click. The Family Care Foundation and The Family has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past few years for "Internet/search engine marketing." Surely we can get better results without having to invest anything except some time and effort. (reply to this comment) |
