| from Haunted Wednesday, December 22, 2004 - 06:06 (Agree/Disagree?) While I admit to being the first one to criticize the first generation for the many faults they had (namely, joining a cult, just for starters), I have to say that the birth of a child born outside of the cult by one of our peers is certainly an event! I'm glad you've seen the error of your ways Evan, and are determined to help raise this child in the proper way and be a supportive grandparent, but I feel the animosity comes from those of us who can only dream of the loving care that you propose to give this child and the jealousy and anger that comes with wondering why the hell you, our parents, or any other adult in the cult didn't love us or care enough for their OWN children to give us the same chance this child now has. Perhaps this will help you understand better why we feel so embittered against most FGA's. However, congratulations on the birth of your grandchild and I wish you the best... (reply to this comment)
| | | from The Pedantic Prick Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 17:43 (Agree/Disagree?) Why was this article posted in the Events section? The subtitle of this section reads "We may be messed up, but we throw great parties." What does the birth of evanman's granddaughter have to do with this? The editors of this section should move this article to Generations, which is where pointless nonsense from old people belongs. (reply to this comment)

| from Joe H Monday, December 20, 2004 - 20:47 (Agree/Disagree?) Dear Uncle Evan, Please go back where you belong, e.g. http://www.newdaynews.com/ Thankfully, Joe P.S. And for the wife: http://www.newdaynews.com/arroz/index.cgi (reply to this comment)
| From Joe H Tuesday, December 21, 2004, 17:38 (Agree/Disagree?) Allow me to be more clear. From the Disclaimer: "This site is not recommended for children, or for current or former first generation Family members. (Jules)" The way I see it, you're welcome to offer your opinions from time to time, but what are you doing announcing events in YOUR life as though anyone here cared? This is not a virtual community for first-generation family members. I'm sure everyone at NewDayNews will be thrilled to hear more about your life, and will be much more sympathetic and understanding than will the members here. If we wanted to talk with former Uncles and Aunties, we would be over there with you. Ta-ta...(reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | | | From GoldenMic Tuesday, December 21, 2004, 18:32 (Agree/Disagree?) Well, thats kind 'a the point being made here. This is probably not the place for proud first-generation'ers to get a "feel good", but a place where the angry victims of a disgusting cult rant and rave. An important aspect of this site is that horribly oppressed and abused people need and want a place to let out their vitriol. Anyway, congratulations on your new grandchild. As painful as it is for many of us to speak about children and babies, considering our mangled pasts, it IS important to remember that new births often result in happiness, at least for the parents, and assuming the birth did not occur in a slime-ball cult, where its just another avenue for manipulation, embarrassment, and failure. you didn't mention that some people were nice here despite the aggravation your presence caused. Seriously, don't you LOVE to hear people speak honestly and openly, even when they are mad or attacking? If you are out of TF, I guess I am surprised you don't appreciate the honesty here, but that's just me.(reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | From Vicky Wednesday, December 22, 2004, 00:08 (Agree/Disagree?) Evanman, I think that the fact that you were in TF in the 'Early Days,' and only for a relatively short time compared to the 15-25 years that many of us spent in the cult, is one reason why you do not understand the reactions of some on this site. You may have suffered in the cult, but at least you had a way out and took it. Yes, you may feel that you still suffer as a result of your time in TF, but we spent years and years being subjected to all forms of psychological, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, not to mention the difficulties some have faced in leaving and beginning to build a life without any support whatsoever from family and loved ones. I wish you all the best, really I do, but I do think you would be better suited to the community over at NDN, as recommended by Joe. There are people there whose experiences are much more likely to be similar to yours, and I think you would be able to relate better to them and their views. This website is specifically geared towards the children of the COG, who had no choice in the matter of what we were born into or dragged into as children. (reply to this comment) |
