Getting in Touch : Connections
Cedar Joy | from CedarJoyTallBlackGirlie - Monday, July 19, 2004 accessed 1929 times To anyone who may remember me: I'd like contact with some of my old buddies. My name was Cedar, Joy, Jade, Midnight, and a few others. I am tall, black and never really fit in. I had a lot of friends, tho, and would love to talk to some of them again. My email is midnightrejoicing@yahoo.com --Midnight |

| | | From CedarJoy Thursday, July 22, 2004, 15:47 (Agree/Disagree?) Actually, my given birth name is Midnight Rejoicing. And while in the Family, I changed it to Cedar, after a good friend that I admired, who was named Cedar--a beautiful ethereal-looking woman and an excellent mother. I mention my race simply because there were quite a few Cedars around, and I knew there would be instant recognition if I mention that I am black. (and a HOT one at that). I take no offense to any racial insinuations, as a matter of fact, I'll be the first to laugh at the jokes because I'm good like that. (reply to this comment) |
| | From Shackled Thursday, July 22, 2004, 18:33 (Agree/Disagree?) I do apologize for placing it here. I intended no offense at all. I just thought it was funny and so obviously untrue that no one would be offended. Perhaps I'm to familiar with my black friends. It's like a black man can call another black man a niger but a white man can't. I've gotten close to some blacks and joke around with them as if I was black. I'm glad you aren't offended and had a laugh.(reply to this comment) |
| | | | From Shackled Thursday, July 22, 2004, 18:27 (Agree/Disagree?) It would appear that Cedar/Joy has seen my comment, she posted a comment after me, and wasn't offended. Alot of people joke about my race and many jokes may not be politically correct but who says jokes have to be. Maybe the blondes can all start getting offended, after all, they're even made fun of in movies. What I'm sayingis, all of you who aren't African American and found it offensive can continue to give me thumbs down, throw it in the trailer and say whatever shit you want and it won't matter. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | From CedarJoy Thursday, July 22, 2004, 19:15 (Agree/Disagree?) ..and now, back to the reason I originally posted the article. I'd like contact with my old friends. We went through a lot of hard times together in the Family, but we stood by each other. We have now gone through some or all of the stages of leaving behind all that we knew-and all whom we knew-to face life 'out here'. We've fought our separate battles, and I am sure that whoever may contact me again is a completely different person than I may remember. As am I. The last five years have been difficult, but thankfully I have done a great job of keeping my head on my shoulders and staying sane and grounded even when, at times, I felt like the only one on earth that had seen the things I have seen or felt, even remotely, the way that I have felt. I'm so glad for my 'true' family--the ones that have stuck by me. I have never regretted leaving the Family-not ONE IOTA-it was truly the best decision that I have every made, I only wish I had done it sooner. (reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | From Joe H Thursday, July 22, 2004, 12:19 (Agree/Disagree?) I don't think it's very funny at all. It might merit a chuckle during a boring drive when one of your friends pointed it out briefly, but it doesn't work as a extended joke that I suspect has been forwarded to Shackled. If the situation were reversed (i.e. Signs showed white figures on a dark background) and a black comedian was lamenting the inherent racism thereof in a hyperbolic way, then it might warrant a minute or two as part of a stand-up bit. As presented and in the current context, I find it insipid and sad. (reply to this comment) |
| | From itsxena2u Thursday, July 22, 2004, 10:50 (Agree/Disagree?) You know, I think this comment was inappropriate. I think Cedar Joy wrote this article to try and find some long lost friends not to be ridiculed and made fun of. The fact that she mentioned she was black was so we could know who she was, because I'm sure the name Cedar or Joy was very common in TF. I highly doubt she brought it up so we could make racial jokes. It was bad enough growing up in a cult where there were so few black people and having to be constantly indoctrinated with Berg's racism and prejudice. My sister is black and she is one of the sweetest, kindest and most considerate person I know. Not to mention VERY well educated.(reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | From Shackled Friday, July 23, 2004, 08:07 (Agree/Disagree?) I already explained that it wasn't because she was black but because of another comment I read. I also conceded that placing it in her article was a mistake. I should've respected that but I also didn't think it would cause a controversy. I'd rather not continue discussing this and I apologize a final time for not respectin her wishes. (reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | from Jerseygirl Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - 12:42 (Agree/Disagree?) You mentioned that in the cult you were tall, black and never fit in. You forgot to say all the other things you were: kind, loyal, witty, and most of all I thot you were BEAUTIFUL!!! Love from one of your faithful fans, the "even your eyelashes are self-righteous" girl. (reply to this comment)
