Getting Support : For the Geeks
Help! | from porceleindoll - Monday, December 30, 2002 accessed 1326 times I'm trying to figure out how to make a VCD and having absolutely no luck! Can anyone give me some first steps to take when making a VCD out of a .avi or .dvx file? And how about cutting the file in half if it's too large to fit on the disk? I've already messed up a few CDs and spent at least 3 months trying to work this out. Is there some easy program I can download that will automatically conver the files for me into whatever format I need for VCD? Yes, I know, it's a geeky question. |

It has a built in mpeg1 encoder. Just create new video cd compilation. Drag the avi into your file list and it should check the clip and make sure its compatable. Make sure create standard complient cd is checked. Don't use CD-i application. Check the encoding resolution (PAL/NTSC) When you go to burn it will re-encode if it needs to. The film will play on pc and in most stand-alones. Oh forgot to mention first check the size (in MB) after you drag the clip into nero. Depending on the length you might have to split it like you said. Just use a program called "avichop" http://www.divx-digest.tv/software/cutjoin/avichop02.zip and then repeat what I said above for both parts. (reply to this comment)
| from porceleindoll Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 01:34 (Agree/Disagree?) Thanks for the tips, I have TMPGenc downloaded and am working on using it. I'm having troubles with getting ahold of codecs,I downloaded NimoLite but for some reason it won't load onto my computer. I tried to download virtualdub but the site is giving me lots of troubles. At least I know what an .avi and mpeg file are so I don't feel as dumb as I was a month ago. (reply to this comment)
| from JP Magero Tuesday, December 31, 2002 - 07:36 (Agree/Disagree?) To add to tommy's link, this is probably the best tool for encoding audio/video streams for VCD. I have used this successfully and it worked on VCD players on my PC, but i never tried on a stand-alone DVD player cause mine doesnt support CDRs. http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/tmpgenc.html Take care!
