I went through Job Corps shortly after leaving the family and it was a really good thing for me. At least it got me started on the right path and helped me get organized and admitted to college. I think that Job Corp is a good choice especially for younger SGAs that don't have anywhere to go. (reply to this comment)
| from Holon Monday, December 29, 2003 - 09:12 (Agree/Disagree?) You can still get into the marines if you have felony convictions. My little brother did it.They can even clean up your record for you some times. But dont buy into all the BS about paying for school ect.. They will say just about anything to get you in there, but than you are pretty much left at there mercy. So think about it long and hard. (reply to this comment)
| from xhrisl Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 06:43 (Agree/Disagree?) I did the Army thing and dispite having to enlist and put off my education for a few years I am now well on the way with just 18 credits to go for my B.A.---all paid for with no debt hanging over my head. For a poor kid it's not a bad way to go. (reply to this comment)
| from sarafina Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 13:27 (Agree/Disagree?) It's good to see people posting good, helpful, useful and positive information on here again! My brother did the same thing, he joined the Marines at 18 yrs old and they paid for his college education, food and housing. Now my little sis (who is already a college graduate at 23) Just joined the Army and they are going to pay off her college loans and re-locate her to CA to continue her studies in language and law. Now my little brother who is 17(and can't seem to keep out of trouble) Is going to be joining the Army also. It's done a lot of good for all of them including teaching some responsibility and discipline and has helped in furthering their education and Job possibilities. (reply to this comment)
| From Christy Thursday, August 21, 2003, 17:52 (Agree/Disagree?) Just a word of caution if you choose to take the military path: I know of several ex-family young people (including a member of my family) who have gotten kicked out of the military for drug use or underaged drinking. After dedicating several years of their lives to the military they were not able to reap the benefits in the way of college funding. If you do join the military, just be aware of the fact that it can all be taken away if you screw up. Of course this can apply to any job, however, random drug tests are much more common in the military than in most other professions. (reply to this comment) |
