Getting Support : Speaking Out
Quebec - Documentary | from Documentary - Tuesday, December 04, 2007 accessed 543 times Hi, I'm a journalist for a television channel in Québec (Canada) that broadcasts documentaries on different subjects of interest. My team and I are currently working on a new series about new religious movements, which will be broadcasted in 10 episodes later this year. So we traveled to different places in the province of Québec to conduct interviews with people who experienced a religious movement. Our team is now working on an episode, which will be portraying the sexuality in these new religious movements. We heard about the flirty fishing and the pedophilia in the Children Of God and we would like to introduce this movement to know what really happened. In this way, do you know someone from Québec or Ontario who would be interested in speaking with me and participating in our documentary? We would discuss the project further in detail over the phone and do a phone interview. And then set up a meeting to shoot an interview. Of course if the person does not want to be recognized, we could protect their identity. My team and I thank you very much for your attention, and I hope to hear from you soon : communication@qc.aira.com |

Actually, on the Canada thing, I finally decided I should meet my grandmother and quit putting it off, so as new year comes in, I will see Canada & my grandmother for the first time. Wish me luck. | from afflick Wednesday, December 05, 2007 - 16:49 (Agree/Disagree?) Every once in awhile, I'll get an email request asking me if I know any peers living in a certain geographical area who can be involved in projects similar to yours and every time I respond I won't volunteer anyone. Unless someone directly decides to contact you with their own information, I wouldn't expect people to just give up their friends contact info to researchers. Wouldn't be polite. Researchers/documentary directors/media people: if you want to speak with us, please frame your question as a direct request. Do not ask us to give up other's information for you to contact. We get a lot of requests for school paper research/media/etc. and are very willing to get our story out there in general. However, the manner in which the request is made goes a long way towards a positive response. Most of us are busy career professionals and/or parents and (as AndyH pointed out months ago) not specimens to be dissected and analysed at will. While many of us will go on record, many more are hesitent for a variety of reasons. Please keep that in mind when you ask to use our faces/stories/likenesses in your projects. Thank you. That's enough slashes for today. (reply to this comment)
