Getting Support : Speaking Out
A Book Soon to be Published | from cassy - Monday, March 19, 2007 accessed 1932 times See the following link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Not-Without-My-Sister-Violated/dp/0007248067 This is our story, our personal memoirs of our life in the Family and our eventual decision to leave and make a new life for ourselves. It is soon to be published, but we wanted to let you all know about it now, as we know that we wouldn't have had the strength to do this without many of you here on this site, that have spoken up about what they experienced. We'd encourage anyone who reads the book to comment on it on Amazon, and we would appreciate anyone who feels they would support us should The Family spin machine choose to decend on us as they have done previously, to either post here or email us privately via our profiles. Thank you. We will soon also be opening our own website for the book. This is the first (that we know of) second generation book of life in the Family, but we would encourage anyone else who has thought about writing their story - or already have written it, that it's possible to have it published. We've told our own story, and have tried our best to give the reader insight into the lives we lived and the complex emotional struggles we've gone through, both in relation to our parents, and to our own healing. The Amazon blurb is shocking and written by the publishers to catch people's attention. The book goes far further in delving into the depth of the story, far more than an article or talk show ever could. Our hope is that it will do some good to highlight the issues that second generation have faced being raised in a cult and then having to adjust to life outside. |

Reader's comments on this article Add a new comment on this article | from wingsofgold Thursday, December 04, 2008 - 07:09 (Agree/Disagree?) i just finished reading the book. I was in such awe when i was reading it. I was kinda blind to cults and never really gave them much thought. I have suggested your book to several people. I was molested as a kid by my own grandfather and forced to forget it happened although i never did. Then I was raped as an adult. This book gave me some light and I admire the strength it took to move on and do something about everything. (reply to this comment)
| from flora Thursday, September 25, 2008 - 11:34 (Agree/Disagree?) i have just finished reading the book and am shocked that stuff like that went on in this world. I think the three girls are very brave to speak about their story. I think people who have gotten out of the family have lots of courage and I wish them all the best. Flora (reply to this comment)
| from amoreena Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - 04:49 (Agree/Disagree?) Well, congradulations for your bold testimony. I also wrote the first half of my childhood, in french, and the big french edition houses don't want to hear from it. what di you think of it? Maybe Quebec could be more open to that kind of hardcore stuff? I really want it out. (reply to this comment)
| from Jay Monday, January 14, 2008 - 08:47 (Agree/Disagree?) Hi just finished reading your book and couldn't put it down!!! I couldn't believe and still can't believe that this cult is still in existence!! I was horrified by most of what you all went through and even cried! I think most young people don't want to believe in cults anymore, and that they don't really exist!! I think this book is a real eye-opener for everyone espeacialy the young people all over the world that these cults DO exist and they could be sucked into this world way too easily. Again Your book has touch my heart and I think it is a book that I won't forget for a very long time. My thaughts are with each and everyone of you. I have recommened the book to about all of my friends and told them to get out there and buy it. (reply to this comment)
| | | from Wolf Saturday, March 24, 2007 - 03:06 (Agree/Disagree?) I just pre-ordered this book. I think that if each of us buy a copy of this book, and recommend it to people we know, we will hurt the cult in several ways: the more copies sell, the higher the book will go on Amazon's rating list, which will have a snowball effect of more people buying it. Then publishing companies will be more likely to publish our stories when they see it is good business. And finally, it will help some of our fellow survivors who were brave enough to tell their story. (reply to this comment)
| from cassy Thursday, March 22, 2007 - 03:08 (Agree/Disagree?) Thank you for your comments and support. We appreciate it. The best part of the process was when it passed the legal department! That wouldn't have happened without those that testified in the British Custody case, all those that submitted their stories here on the this website and also the detailed information that has been complied on xfamily.org, the Montel Williams and Cult Killer documentaries. Thanks especially to all involved with those - you've helped us to tell our story. (reply to this comment)

I am really looking forward to reading this and commend you three for your bravery of telling your story, in many ways it's not just your story it's many of ours as well. I just put in my purchase order for three books one which I plan to send my parents. Like Peter said this is the side that has been missing. My thoughts are with you,I'm also there for support should you need it. (reply to this comment)

| from Peter Monday, March 19, 2007 - 14:45 (Agree/Disagree?) Congratulations! I look forward to reading this book. From everything I've heard about it and the few excerpts I've read, this is an excellent book and deserves a top spot on any reading list about The Family/Children of God cult. There have been a number of books by former first generation members but, until now, none by former second generation members. So this is a very important book in that it offers a perspective that has been almost completely missing from previous books about the cult. Congratulations to all three of you. You of course will have my full support and any help I can offer should the cult's child molester run PR spin machine prove to be cowardly and foolish enough to attack you in any way.
