The Catholic Church : No comparison

from Shaka - Tuesday, February 08, 2005

Another example of cultie stupidity.

One of the favorite lines of Claire Borowik, Zerby, and others is that abuse such as we accuse them of is not exclusive to the Family. They seem to like to bring up the cases of abuse in the Catholic Church to try and prove that the Family is not so bad after all. There are a few things wrong with that analogy.

1: Sexual abuse was never condoned by the Pope, Cardinals, or any other figure of authority. In the Family's case, it came straight from the top.

2: Once a priest was accused, the Church took all necessary steps to cooperate with authorities in investigating and charging the perps. The Family has not turned one accused person over to police. Instead they try to hush the whole thing up by any means necessary.

3: The ratio of abused children to members of the Church is miniscule when compared to us. If the ratios were the same, the number of Catholic abuse cases would be in the millions.

Boro-bitch, please keep using lines like the ones above. It makes you look even more idiotic if that's possible. Oh, and wear that cross with the turtleneck again, mmm'kay?

(Agree/Disagree?)
Great article. Absolutely no comparison. A TF spokesperson bringing up the Catholic Church is a pretty predictable and simple minded strategy but it ultimately only serves to prove how unacceptable and outrageous the Family appears when is compared to other religious organizations.

Unfortunately, it also goes to show how lightly the Family has gotten away with things. Its pathetic. Berg requested sick videos and there is documented proof that he saw and commented on videos made with children. Could anyone imagine the Pope doing the same thing? No, of course not. Its a pity the vatican can't sue Borowick and her group for making statements like that.

I think some in the Catholic Church did not actually take all necessary steps the first time around. It took scandal and it was discovered that there had been some covering and shuffling the accused priests. However, once the scandal becam public, the Catholic Church did take steps to cooperate with authorities. In the case of The Family, they have persisted in the face of this public scrutiny to deny, refuse cooperation, attempt to hush things, and try to drag their victims through the mud and call them liars.
