Getting Support : Speaking Out
MOVING ON | from krisskiki - Wednesday, August 20, 2003 accessed 1433 times While sitting here reading over my last article, the comments responding to it, & formulating replies, a question pops into my mind: Why am I a member of this site? I haven't been abused, I got a good education, I have a good job, I am on my way to my dream college..so, what am I doing on this site? I have my opinions about my experiences in the Family just like everyone else, but why am I choosing to tell you about them? I don't know you. I'm not going to change your mind & you sure as hell aren't going to change mine. I'm not going to change my own family's mind about being in the Family & they can't change mine, but that's our business. I respect their freedom of religion, the same way they have respected my freedom of choice. So, to come on here & read about things that really haven't affected me throughout my life in the Family....well sure I can spend time bitching about the fact that I had to eat peanutbutter/tofu sandwiches & whatnot, but I have better things to do with my time than regress. I'm moving on. |

| from Sigh Friday, August 22, 2003 - 19:34 (Agree/Disagree?) Kriss, you are 19 years old. The cult existed before you were even born, heck the letter "Liberty or a stumbling Block" came out when you were like 2 or 3(1987). Of course you don't know any of this stuff. Let me explain it to you simply, once opon a time there was a group of very sick people, they got a lot of criticism because of stories that ex-members told to the outside word. The outside world got really upset and threatened to take away their children and throw the adults in jail. The adults were so scared by this that they cleaned up their act, put together a pretence of education and made rules that didn't let adults molest children anymore. This was the point when you walked in. This great life you talk about having in the Family is something you owe to the people who fought them. If "Bitter ex-members" hadn't attacked the Family like they did, you would have grown up with your name on a sharing schedule posted on the bulletin board, and a endless stream of ugly middle aged men who wanted you to show them God's love. You would have also been beaten if you showed any interest in System education, or locked in a room if you tried to leave. The group you grew up in was not what it started out as, or would have been if outsiders hadn't interfered. You questioning whether or not the Family is abusive is like me trying to debate a Vietnam veteran on whether or not Vietnam was traumatic. (reply to this comment)
| from Joe H Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 18:49 (Agree/Disagree?) "what am I doing on this site? " The same thing the rest of us are doing - trying to alleviate some boredom. Oh and the Family frequently doesn't respect freedom of choice. We all remember the Victor Programs that didn't afford us the choice to be "110% endtime soldiers" and all that crap, so I won't go into great detail. (reply to this comment)
