Getting Real : This Site Sucks

accessed 1268 times First timer on this site, these are my thoughts on it. this site was made by adults, right?
that surprises me...greatly
Me being what is considered an 'adolescent', i am by nature a curious person...i enjoy talking to those i think have a brain, usually 'adults' do... so in all sincere curiousity...i decide to take a look around this site i chanced upon...and its amazing me how ridiculous this all sounds.
I´ve been in the fam, i know both its sides. But this is...well, stupid. Sure, maybe its cuz i hardly saw much here, only been looking around for the past hour, but for logic´s sake! Call me a narrow minded person, but I like it when theres a logic, an intelligent argument (note i said intelligent)...so far its only downright stupid! And hell, i am probably not too bright, im not that old either, so if I - a relatively dumb young person - think its dumb...thats pretty damm dumb if you ask me.
I wanna hear both sides, but at least give me a good debate! And i dont mean by the fam youth side either, they base their arguments on what they believe, so its fine by that, whether its right or wrong i wont attempt to judge, but its their belief, and at least its justified. But the reasoning i have seen so far just seems so inane, childish really...using weak proof, illogical theories, not to mention seems quite biased...again, if i am thinking it biased, what do you think a family teen would think reading this? Whatever your goal may be, even if its just to 'open eyes' here, this is definetely counter productive. The vicious method of expression so commonly seen here will repel much more than draw. In fact, it basically fuels the feeling that they (the family youth) are doing the right thing, and should therefore stick to it.
What the hell is this for anyhow? |

Wow, it's not this site that sucks; but you do (at least from what I gather from your 'article'). You might be a perfectly decent person, but from what you wrote that's just hard to believe.
Anyhow, instead of complaining about people's useless comments and telling us how smart you are, why don't you actually integrate your so-called intelligence into your article...etc?
Now I'll be a hypocrite just for the sake of giving out my criticism, even though you probably won't give it a second thought (or even a first):
You see, you were telling people in your article how ridiculous this all sounds. But you're just adding to all of it.
Save it, next time.

There is no 'goal' to this site, it's a place to chat and post articles -- freedom of speech!-- Something the family never allowed. It can be a concept difficult to understand at first, especially since we weren't allowed to express ourselves for much of our lives. But once you understand that, you'll get that people are individual and regardless of whether someone is 'bright' or 'dumb' in your opinion, they still have a right to express themselves.

1 - i am not in the fam havent been for 2 years.
2 - I AM 16....so yes i am an adolescent
3 - just because i am a TEEN doesnt mean i dont have good spelling! just because the rest of you didnt use your brains to learn anything doesnt mean I DIDNT.
4 - the two casses of misspelling happened really because i was typing quickly, did not read over my article, not to mention was on a unknown keyboard.

If you guys cant take any criticism, dont expect other ppl to.

For the record, I didn't think you were an adult at all. To me, you sounded very much like a teenager, and the only thing your use of 'adolescent' said to me was that you were trying to sound more clever than you are. Or maybe, if I were to be particularly generous, that english is not your first language. I also disagreed with the opinion that your views and opinions sounded like that of an adult. I thought your article betrayed a glaring naivety and the typical thought process of an 'on board' family teen. Whether or not you're in the cult now, you manage to sound just like a cultie. Don't worry, you'll hopefully grow out of it. Good luck with finding yourself.

4. If you want intelligent debate, start it. I'm given to understand it's generally initiated by putting forward a hypothesis and the defending it.

I was going to argue with him about it.
But the problem has to do with use of the word "full", which means filled to capacity. It may be correct to suggest that if the world is full of idiots, there are nothing but idiots in the world and thus on this site.

It's an incorrect assumption that idiots create idiotic content.
That's not in the hypothesis setup.

You don't have to be on this site! These adults are coping with their past, butt out!
Okay sorry, I am usually not so mean, but seriously, adults may do crazy things too. Try hypnosis, needles in your face, detoxing, memory relapse therapy etc...these are many things "adults" do to try to cope with a traumatic event. And if you don't think many of us here went through traumatic events, you are so sadly ignorant and without compassion to this "lost" generation. I used to go and hide in the bathroom or attic just to have a place to be alone in crowded homes where there was absolutely no privacy and I was constantly scrutinized and used as a whipping boy for any "frustrated" adult in the house---GET A LIFE AND GET OUT!

This is not a site for family teens. It's a place to vent, chat with someone who knows where you're coming from, share news or suggestions for example. Its an open forum site more or less. One does not need to rationalize about its greater or whatever purpose. I personally do not care one tiny bit what any family teen or adult will think when/if they read what I have to say. Their opinions, thoughts and perhaps consequent decisions, are not my concern. I personally am not interested in rescuing or "converting" any of them.... Many have tried. When they want to get out, they will...not before.
This is not a pro family site... if you're so interested in "hearing both sides," I suggest you hook up with some current members. We know both sides brother... we were raised in it!!

LOl, that's too funny. I wonder if all family members think that just because we are no longer blindly following the "truth", that we now go out of our way to destroy the fam. I think it's rather presumptuous to assume that this site is frequented with the sole and coordinated purpose of infiltrating current members with our "bitterness and lies". What's the purpose of your post? Is to wake us up to error of our ways or to stimulate us into being more effective in destroying the family? Some kind of weird reverse psychology maybe?

Well, they think the universe revolves around them and since we are not a part of them anymore then we MUST be dedicating our lives to trying to stop them, they can't grasp the concept of someone simply not caring at all about them. They have deluded themselves so severly they honestly think everything is always about them. Most dumb people will think that anything they don't quite understand is dumb no matter how intelligent it actually is. In fact, the more intelligent it is, the less they understand it and therefore the dumber they will claim it to be.
You say you like logical and intelligent debates? Consider this; logical, intelligent debates include the siting of instances and examples, followed by a line of reasoning. None of which you have done. So you either just contradicted yourself, or proved you don't know what, a logical, intelligent debate is and therefore are no better then the people you are critisizing.
Just my humble opinion, feel free to correct/debate me.
(P.S. "damm" is spelled "damN") ;)

Nope, I don't buy it. This was not written by a kid. The author is an adult. First of all, there are way too many correctly spelled words, not-to-mention adult vocabulary and complete sentences. Yet the piece is clearly written without the use of spell check because curiosity and definitely are spelled wrong and it's and its are misused. Secondly, I don't think adolescents call themselves adolescents...ever! And since when do teens say things like "adults usually have a brain"? This is an adult point of view. As is this sentence: "The vicious method of expression so commonly seen here will repel much more than draw." where both the language and the opinion have the tone of an officious adult or parent who is accustomed to giving advice to children.

all I can say is that if you feel this way about this site and TF then you are a lucky soul, well in some respects, if what is expressed within this site is deemed by you as insanity then that hopefully means you havent, and will hopefully never experience the extent of the damage TF inflicted, and for that, even in your apparent narrow mindeness in regards to the fact lots of different things happened to lots of different people, but then again your intuitive and mature response obviously sourced from your infinite wisdom and experience has maybe set us straight, we all must have imagined our lives, or maybe it was the time in our lives when we let "the devil" in right? please....enlighten us all to the real truth, as it would be a shame to think we've wasted our time on putting our lives back together because of something that never happened, it was so mice of you to clear things up for us all.....

This site contains a wide range of personalities, subject matter, and intelligence levels. I'd say your findings say more about the particular articles that attract your attention than the site itself. You can't call the whole Internet immature if you spend all your time surfing the celebrity gossip pages can you?

I had a few similiar thoughts when I first came here. Read more, think before you judge. There are alot of intelligent people on this site that raise valid questions and employ solid logic. Granted anything can be called semantics but that's for each individual to decide and/or debate. This is a place people come to ... pull up a chair, rant, rave, whatever. You will find some people you click with mentally and others that you don't.
Whatever the case, no one is here to prove anything. No one is here to convince the youth within the family that they are wrong. For me, I come to listen to some people that share my past and once in a while, vent some feelings. Every once in awhile, I have a question answered, a missing car in my train of thought connected or just am reminded that I'm not the only one who has been through this fairly unique experience.
You also are not forced to be here. If you feel there is something to be gained by looking here, do it. If not.......the internet is a big place. Go somewhere else.
