Getting Real : This Site Sucks
Edit option. | from figaro - Saturday, December 08, 2007 accessed 647 times Some ideas for posting options. First off, I do not think this site sucks, but I didn't know where else to post this, so...... =D Is there any way we can get an option to edit or delete comments after we post them? Personally I often catch a typo, spelling or typing error, or word omission after I post the comment and it would be nice if we could edit it or delete double posts or if we decide better of it, for whatever reason. (I know I have said some kinda dumb things that I wished I could have deleted) Again, just to clarify I'm not complaining and I am DEFINITELY thankful to the lord for this wonderful website that he has provided for us, nor am I trying to open the door for the enemy to spread his evil seeds of negativity and doubt, or allowing him to use me as a tool for his EVIL work (AKA spreading the TRUTH, wouldn't want that) :P |

While I appreciate the sentiment, I am pretty sure that calling me “the lord” infringes on a number of trademarks. TTJ (thank the jules) is sufficient. For the record, and you can quote me, “It’s not jesus, it’s only me.” :-p The “edit comment” feature was not built into this web site for the reasons stated below and others: people could significantly edit their comment--making the replies nonsensical, people also from time to time delete all their articles from the web site and doing this with their comments would also make threads impossible to follow, etc. I know that there have been no upgrades or customizations (apart from the chat, which the fabulous JohnnieWalker did) for a long time on here, and I personally have not been around much. While there are no further customizations planned for this version of MovingOn, please know that this web site is not being abandoned. There is a major upgrade planned for next year. I have been planning an upgrade for a long time, but have been looking for ready made applications that are affordable and also do everything we need it to. With all the social networking and community applications out there, I would much rather open a help desk ticket about a bug, problem or needed upgrade then spend hours troubleshooting myself. I know this site is woefully outdated and the archaic format and coding has been a bit of an embarrassment to me for a number of years. However, it still works and does what it was supposed to do and I have had other things on my plate, so the upgrade has unfortunately been lower on my priority list then I wanted it to be. I was hoping to finalise the upgrade last year, but the application I wanted to use wasn’t quite there, and now that it is they have upped the price 2000%. Anyway, I am going with another application that is very flexible and I think will allow the site to upgrade and evolve over the years to come, with minimal work from me. The upgrade is tentatively planned for June of 2008. I will post an article about this soon, but I am looking for people to be involved with this upgrade and also people to manage the new version of the web site. You do not need to have any technical knowledge (although if you do, that is excellent as well) and I am hoping to be part of a committee of MovingOn users who would like to contribute to making this web site better and moving it forward. | From neez Monday, December 17, 2007, 01:00 (Agree/Disagree?) Oh Jules.. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I've seen like three complaints in the last year including me. And the biggest problem I have is the mysterious disappearing double space(I know we had them before. For the LOJ why and/or where!?). Needles to say, I shall continue to use double spaces in direct protest of these oppressive punctuation restrictions. I may or may not make it to June.(reply to this comment) |
| | | | from Dissonant Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:56 (Agree/Disagree?) You are so right! I haven't even posted this comment yet and I already want it deleted. But, since there is no Edit/Delete button, I will just have to write Admin and ask to have it removed. (reply to this comment)
| from PopNFresh Sunday, December 09, 2007 - 21:12 (Agree/Disagree?) Looks like you already let in Mr. & Mrs. Doubt and all their little doubtlets. I'll get back to you with a reading list. I agree. It would be nice to be able to edit posts. In most forums I participate in, there is a way to quote the previous poster. That way if they edit their post, you've preserved their idiocy. | | | | | from rainy Sunday, December 09, 2007 - 12:55 (Agree/Disagree?) No. Such an option would be unfair to people who reply to comments, then if the person changes the original comment it would look like the person who replied overreacted or whatever. Anyway, the fairest thing is no editing. Do what everyone else does, follow up with an asterix if it really bothers you. (reply to this comment)
| | | From Samuel Sunday, December 09, 2007, 14:10 (Agree/Disagree?) Figaro, Scroll down. Way down, to the bottom of the screen. See the blue ribbon? To the left of it is a link where you can e-mail administration and ask them to remove any double posts, innadvertant invasions of another's privacy, or whatever you like. I actually have Admin in my address book, and all you have to do is let them know who you are, the name of the article you posted on, and the time stamp.(reply to this comment) |
