Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil is a damn beautiful woman, and besides she seems to have a shitload more personality and sex appeal than most of the other pathetic female vocalists in "goth" metal bands who get pulled out of their music schools to stand all stiff and nervous on stage signing opera in Scandinavian about some guy who died and some girl who commit suicide. Oh yeah, if you want to hear female-fronted metal bands that kick ass, try Cadaveria (horror metal - this girl can basically do anything with her voice, including growls and shrieks and all that), Ram-Zet (these guys are brilliant - industrial black metal with symphonic elements - unique), and then you can always try that German power metal bitch with blond hair that looks like an aging Zakk Wylde's wife with colon cancer...but she has a massive fanbase and is considered the goddess of metal or something. | | | | | | | from gowiththeno Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:56 (Agree/Disagree?) I totally agree! But I have to say that the best of the best are Lizza and Karla from Mahavatar. That's such a cool band, with a completely unique sound. I recently found this info kit on them by the way, check it out: http://www.germusica.com/html/press_area.html#Mahavatar (reply to this comment)

| From Moonsetter Thursday, July 10, 2008, 19:20 (Agree/Disagree?) These European bands tried to imitate the established "gothic" aesthetic, but they sound nothing like old school acts such as The Sisters of Mercy, Rosetta Stone etc. The style of music is not even in the same ballpark and should not be compared or confused each other. Most European "gothic metal" is wimpy mediocre garbage to begin with...Within Temptation for example. Fuck...my tastes in music range from 80's thrash and first-wave black metal, to Flamenco, to Goa trance...everything depends on the mood. (reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | from Fist Friday, October 14, 2005 - 10:37 (Agree/Disagree?) Other bands with a great set of female vocals are Snake River Conspiracy and Spike 1000... But I think you'll bollock me for my addition of softer rock acts... The funny thing is that most of the women in Metal are pretty crap and have become near to a novelty act, at least in contempory heavy metal... Albeit Angela Gossow has a great set of lungs... She should scrap Arch Enemy and join Amon Amarth, at least collaborate on one album.. How fucking cool would that be? (reply to this comment)
| | | | | from xolox Monday, February 07, 2005 - 22:34 (Agree/Disagree?) Off subject but... Sleep Terror is now moving to California. Most likely Sacramento. So far they intend to keep their date in San Diego. Feb 27th if I'm not mistaken. Once again I urge you to check out this two man tornado, if this can't leave you spun, ain't nothin' gonna do it. They've got the power, melody, jazz, death, grind, prog, and a lot more you name it, all hellishly stirred in a cauldron of speed and persistant technicality. Did I mention originality? Luke Jaeger's fingering is truly impressive, and just when you feel you'll crash, here come's Daves kidney throbbing double bass anvil to insert the metal back in your spine! Be there. | from Haunted Monday, February 07, 2005 - 05:10 (Agree/Disagree?) Well, I have to agree with you on this - Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) is perhaps the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. But let's not forget the delectable Martina from Snake River Conspiracy and Anita Auglend from The Sin of Thy Beloved (even though she's not with them anymore). (reply to this comment)
| | | From JudasChrist Monday, February 07, 2005, 20:36 (Agree/Disagree?) Yes--there R many-I write for a local magazine and the first I wrote for the magazine and the fist ever professionally published article of mine was about a show which was a tribute to a fallen metal queen and Icon in the Socal Area metal/extreme scene. She was talented==REAl talented and we have many good bands with females here in San Diego--such as the COOL and awesome "Iron Maidens" actually pals of mine---the worlds only and female and best Iron Maiden tribute band! Also, WARFACE is waaay hard and hasa FEMALE guitar player, with some devilish riffs---They Play Death metal! http://sdmusicmatters.com/review.php?r=22 Tha above link would be my article...on the SD music matters site ( www.sdmusicmatters.com ) u will find links to artists and genres. | | from fsck Sunday, February 06, 2005 - 17:37 (Agree/Disagree?) Stratovarius had a female vocalist for a while, but it seems they are back to the original line-up again. (reply to this comment)
| | | From fsck Monday, February 07, 2005, 14:00 (Agree/Disagree?) Funnily enough there was another female-fronted gothic metal band featured in this months edition of Classic Rock (a UK rock magazine). Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the band and I have given the magazine away. I'm not into gothic metal though, I'm mostly into power, melodic death and thrash. I'm not opposed to female vocalists so long as they are not just "trophies", if they can really contribute something then fair enough. I have to say I've been pretty impressed by Angela Gossow's growling :-)(reply to this comment) |
| | | | | | From JudasChrist Monday, February 07, 2005, 02:44 (Agree/Disagree?) With what LineUp? Also, Timo Kotipelto (vocalist for the band and a damn good one at that!), is concentrating more on his solo project (if U can call it that, for the band is really a musical all-star-'cast'. Magnificent, compelling, the voice of Timo Kotipelto is one that commands the listener’s attention and through the last decade his voice has captivated audiences worldwide. Fans who have listened in adoration to the now classic sound of Stratovarius are sure to rally around his second solo recording, Coldness, which continues the sound and legacy of the now dissolved premier power metal band. Without equal Kotipelto’s voice has inspired audiences with its purity, intensity and breathtaking delivery. A prominent member of Finland’s premier power metal band, Kotipelto joined Stratovarius in 1996 after five years of intense training at Helsinki’s renowned Academy of Music. Wanting to express his own vision, he began recording his first solo record, 2001’s Waiting For The Dawn, in his downtime between Stratovarius records. Putting together an unmatched cast of musicians the KOTIPELTO albums are a testament to the vocalist’s masterful song-writing. Within Coldness’ tracks can again be found inspired performances by the world’s finest power/progressive musicians - guitar virtuoso Mike Romeo (Symphony X), keyboardist Janne Wirman (Children Of Bodom, Warmen), drummer Mirka Rantanen (Thunderstone, Tunnelvision, Warmen), bassist Jari Kainulainen (Stratovarius), as well as axeman Juhani Malmberg (Tunnelvision) and guest lead guitarist Antti Wirman (Warman, Craydawn). Like the sweeping winds that herald a tremendous thunderstorm “Seeds Of Sorrow” opens the disc with its dynamic thunder. Classic metal song structures form a solid foundation from which the ever-talented musicians are able to springboard. Kotipelto’s vocal harmonies, and ascending range complement guitarists Romeo and Rantanen skilled untiring rhythms and flawless melodic solos. Like sunshine Wirman’s keyboards break through the unrelenting torrential musical deluge at the end of “Around,” reminiscent of fellow Finn’s Nightwish. “Can You Hear The Sound,” an epic mid-tempo-ed song, is fraught with tension and Kainulainen’s bass lines excite those listening to the multi-layered musicality. Never does Coldness fail to electrify. Engineered by Janne Wirman at Beyond Abilities Studios (Children Of Bodom, Warmen) and by Tero Kostermaa (Thunderstone, Throes of Dawn) at High and Loud’s ELK-Studios, as well as Helsinki’s famous Finnvox Studios (Nightwish, Sentenced, Children Of Bodom) where the album was mixed by Mikko Karmila (Amorphis, Avantasia) and mastered by Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Eternal Tears of Sorrow). The production came together to give this album unrivaled clarity and depth. With passion and conviction, majestic vocals, melodic heavy guitars and exhilarating keyboards, Coldness is an album sure to please any Timo Kotipelto/Stratovarius fan. (From Century Media--a HORRID label, but has some ok bands---I know, I've been interning and doing actual pay work for yeeears for this and many other metal labels).(reply to this comment) |
