Getting Real : Speak your peace
What are you here for? | from Wolf - Saturday, February 28, 2004 accessed 1377 times There has been a lot of speculation as to what this site “should be”. Some seem to think it should be a forum for abuse stories, others are apparently hoping some wounds will be healed, and every so often somebody belligerently reminds us that we’re supposed to be “moving on”. What do you visit this site for? I’ll admit my reason is somewhat pathetic. I live in a non-English speaking country, and communicating in my native language helps me hold on to my sanity. Debating these topics is more interesting than, say, debating whether the Radeon 9600 is better than the Geforce4 4200 with a bunch of hardware geeks. So, what’s your reason? While we’re at it, how about some nominations for “best short post”, from the last few months? I nominate Alf’s “Trust the system. The system will save us. The system is busy right now, but will get back to you shortly.” What was your favorite short post? Cheers! |

Reader's comments on this article Add a new comment on this article | from Gregd Friday, April 30, 2004 - 05:45 (Agree/Disagree?) This site is, amongst things, is a comfort. It a continual reminder that no matter how bad your life is, how shitty your job, how few or dicky your friends may be, it could be worse, alot worse. Cause right now in some where in the world a group of idiots are just starting to sit down to read the most boaring shit and saying comments like, "Wow", and "heavy". And it could get worse. Todays package was big. There could be a brand new novel by J R R Tolkien and J K Rowling (she's not dead yet but there's a prophecy in the index to explain all). And it is this site's job (or calling) to point out what a bunch of fuckers they really are, even the to the nice ones. (There are good fuckers and bad fuckers in TF. And igorant and crimanal fuckers). I know what you're thinking, "that's a lot of fuckers". Sure is. So we have to keep reminding them. Best to be civil and not call them fuckers to their face, unless God tells you to of course. (Sorry for use of fuckers so much but I couldn't find my thesaurus. May be an online one would be in order). (reply to this comment)
| from krystine Wednesday, March 03, 2004 - 21:19 (Agree/Disagree?) I want to have a second generation ex-cultie singles network. There are times when I want to find a mature good guy who knows where I'm coming from because a lot of people say they understand but really have no clue. Sometimes I feel the need to make "loving Jesus" jokes during impromptu moments and the "other half" thinks I'm insane. Its ni ce to have this website where I can bitch and rant and it doesn't sound like I'm just talking out of my ass and it's comforting to know that there are stories like mine and these things did happen even though those still in the cult deny those things ever happened. | From Jules Thursday, March 04, 2004, 01:29 (Agree/Disagree?) This is an interesting idea. I have heard this from other people before but honestly I wondered whether it was just ghettoizing ourselves. Personals which could be private for registered users only on MovingOn v3 (which yes is still coming) is something that could be built in, but I wonder what other people think about this. Personally I have never dated an exmember, have never felt any desire to at all, and feel it’s a bit incestuous since I know so much about other people I grew up with, but perhaps that’s just due to my own issues. Apparently a number of people have hooked up already through this site. Perhaps things like “married or not”, "orientation", "type of relationship I am looking for" and “number of children” in private profiles might eliminate some problems. (reply to this comment) |
| | From Mydestinyismine Saturday, March 06, 2004, 00:41 (Agree/Disagree?) Like you suggested, a more detailed profile might help. Of the few exmember girls I've met I never thought of dating them. And before finding out about this site I hadn't had much contact with exmembers and never knew what type of lives the rest were living. It also seems not many are very active on this site. The chat room could use an upgrade too.(reply to this comment) |

| from HannaB Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 13:22 (Agree/Disagree?) To me, it isn't that I WANT to talk about the cult, it's just nice to have the option that if I wanted to, I could. Here its not a shock and something compeletly abnormal to say, "well, since I never had proper schooling...!" No explaining needed, people know your past without you having to talk about it if you dont want to. I just hate trying to explain crap about my life to people who can't fathom what I mean. | From Mydestinyismine Tuesday, March 02, 2004, 23:32 (Agree/Disagree?) My thoughts exactly. I was trying to think of how to explain it yesterday but just couldn't put it into words. Also, since joining this site I've learned the truth about alot of things and it feels good. I don't blame myself anymore for not having the education. All those years of being told I was an "idiot", "rotten apple", "bad sample", etc...no longer have a hold on me. I, like everyone else, was brought up to believe TF is the best place and leaving it was like turning your back on God. I knew those things weren't true but it still effected me. Having the truth brought out clearly made it easier to forget the past, move on, take a stand with getting an education and be proud of who I am.(reply to this comment) |
| | from fragiletiger Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 12:05 (Agree/Disagree?) to talk to people that dont look at me as though ive just said i grew up in fantasia everytime i have to carefully explain somepart of my childhood. to relate to other freacks, becuase no matter how close you get to people who where never in the family theres always a point where you know they have no idea what your talking about (reply to this comment)
| | | from itsxena2u Monday, March 01, 2004 - 19:11 (Agree/Disagree?) I agree. I have fun chatting, arguing, joking and even getting mad sometimes. It gives me something to do. I've gotten used to the sarcasm. But what I don't like is the excessive use of profanity. We should direct our comments to the article and not the person who wrote it. But overall, I think its just a way to pass the time and be able to talk about something that everyone can relate to. (reply to this comment)
| | | | | | | from frmrjoyish Monday, March 01, 2004 - 18:46 (Agree/Disagree?) I think we should talk about whatever the hell we want to talk about! All of us, even though we don't always agree, have a unique perspective on everything from TF (obviously), to relationships, kids, politics, etc. For me, I think it's interesting to finally have found a place where tons of people know where I came from and I don't have to constantly watch what I say. I think if this were strictly a site where only "cult stuff" was the topic, it would become boring pretty quickly! My quote nomination: anything by exister, he's refreshingly smart and "devestatingly witty" (to quote banal)! ;) (reply to this comment)
