Getting On : Faith
Talk about war of the Religions | from Free-Thinker - Tuesday, May 17, 2005 accessed 1244 times The link below speaks for itself. http://www.onmission.com/Webzine/sept_oct03/wicca.htm Parents should just mind their own business when it comes to what their teens want to do concerning religion. Reading the article in the above link really makes me mad. Don't give in to your parents wishes when it comes to religion...ever!! I can tell you one thing, if you wanna compare Wicca with Christianity, then Wicca is by far better and peaceful than the destructive and demanding Christian religion. Wicca has basically just one rule -"An harm non, do what `ye will" My only animosity towards Christianity, or towards any other religion or philosophy of life, is to the extent that its institutions have claimed to be 'the only way' and have sought to deny freedom to others and to suppress other ways of religious practice and belief. The role of the Christian church in the west has come under repeated intellectual attack and questioning, many people have looked towards pre-Christian folk roots for alternative expressions of spirituality. Wicca is not authoritarian. They have no gurus, popes, messiahs or scripture. Wicca is not christian. They do not believe in original sin, guilt, sacrifice, redemption, resurrection, or bodily shame. They are not New Age, Buddhist, nor feminist, not channeled, not proponents of modern western culture. Wicca is not devil worship. They do not recognize Satan, who is a demigod of another religion. Wicca is not a profit-making enterprise. There are no fees or charges for rituals or classes. They have no paid ministers. Wicca does not proselytize or attempt to convert others; however, they believe that the ancient ways are more congruent with basic human nature than other religions. And for the record, I am neither Chrisitian nor Wiccan. |

Those wiccan pagans were really on to something with their rule of "And it harm none, do what ye will"! It's exactly like the Law of Love! PT-Fucking-L! | from greensack Thursday, May 26, 2005 - 23:17 (Agree/Disagree?) Lookie here, I found an interesting passage. It is from the coptic/english version of the Gospel of st Thomas. There's some crazy shit in that book no wonder people burned for it! 55 Jesus said, "Whoever does not hate father and mother cannot be my disciple, and whoever does not hate brothers and sisters, and carry the cross as I do, will not be worthy of me."- I guess TFI is following christ well. A previous passage: 53 His disciples said to him, "is circumcision useful or not?" He said to them, "If it were useful, their father would produce children already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become profitable in every respect."- strange. (reply to this comment)

| From Thursday, May 19, 2005, 08:58 (Agree/Disagree?) A native american and a European priest are having a conversation: -Priest "if a man never knew of the gospel and died out of grace, then God shall have mercy because of his ignorance... " -Native "What if the man learned of the gospel right before dying, will god have mercy then?" -Priest "No, the man would have to accept christ as his savior or burn in hell." -Native "...So you're telling me that if I never knew in the first place I'd be fine, but because you told me, now I have to choose? Thanks a lot you fucking asshole!"(reply to this comment) |
| | from xolox Wednesday, May 18, 2005 - 09:24 (Agree/Disagree?) You seem to have the Christian habit of trying to promote your religion, whatever it is. Newsflash: Aleister Crowley was a demented fool and his style was very reminicent of Bergs. The self proclamation of prophethood, the claim that he was some kind of conduit or medium for the gods, (didn't 'receive' his book through an angelic 'revelation'?) and his targeted audience are all similarities that, IMO, cannot be chalked up to coincidence. The science of how to lure the feeble minded has been around since the dawn of time, and there will always be a new 'prophet' willing to make use of it. Go figure, I just used the word 'science' in describing an abusive religious practice. (reply to this comment)
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | from Ne Oublie Wednesday, May 18, 2005 - 03:30 (Agree/Disagree?) Wicca is a religion, just like the many others around. The fact that there is an historic 'war' between Christianity and Wicca doesn't mean that either one is intrinsically better or worse than the other - nor does the fact that Christianity has emerged dominant. The danger in any religion is when it is taken to the extreme. To compare and contrast religions against each other will only yeild subjective results, and will be largely determined by the prior bias of the individual. (reply to this comment)
| from Hansel Tuesday, May 17, 2005 - 23:15 (Agree/Disagree?) That link was interesting read. As an agnostic I've always considered witchcraft and Wicca beliefs to be primarily a means of rebelling against Christianity and not a belief system an intellectual would take seriously. But it seems there are some well thought out theories. (reply to this comment)
