Getting On : All My Politics
Prayer | from Dr.Grey - Sunday, October 15, 2006 accessed 919 times Question: Why are their so many different kinds of religions today? Why are there so many believers of different religions who pray to different gods and who believe in superstitions? LIST OF RELIGIONS: Major Religions: Islam Christianity Buddhism Sikhism Hinduism Non-Major Religions: Shinto Chinese traditional religion primal-indigenous African Traditional & Diasporic Juche Spiritism Baha'i Jainism Cao Dai Zoroastrianism Tenrikyo Neo-Paganism Unitarian-Universalism Rastafarianism Obviously all these religions "work" or nobody would be using them. Now what do the high and might Christians, Muslims and Jews have to say about that? What is your explanation? You say that yours is the true religion but their are so many others who know that theirs is better and that it works and that their prayers are being answered or they wouldn't be believing in them. So what is your answer? |

The World is divided into armed camps ready to commit genocide just because we can't agree on whose fairy tales to believe. In the end, Religion will kill us all. -- Ed Krebs (reply to this comment)
| | | | | | | from http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/summary.htm Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - 06:08 (Agree/Disagree?) There are two important reasons why humans fabricate all of our religions: 1. People invent God as a way to cope with death. Many humans are terrified by death for some reason. They invent religion as a way to deal with their terror. 2. People invent God as a proxy for goodness. People want a way to promote "goodness" and eliminate "evil" in their societies. In the past, inventing an imaginary God has been perceived to be one way to facilitate that process. Death and goodness are important to people. They touch on fundamental human emotions. If we can separate death and goodness from the mythology of God so that we can understand them and work with them in a positive way, we can actually do something very helpful. We can create a rational world for ourselves that is focused on benefiting mankind. (reply to this comment)

| from solemn Monday, October 16, 2006 - 15:23 (Agree/Disagree?) Maybe it has less to do with which one is right, and more to do with which one is a part of one's tradition and cultural belief system. Even after reading your article twice, it is difficult to know what exactly you are asking to have explained to you. But, what I gather is you would like to know why people believe their religion is the best for them. The answer is simple; it's a "belief". If you took 10 people and asked each one what color looks best on themselves, and the other 9 people, it would be unlikely that you would get the same answer from any two of the people. Why? Each has their own preference. Theyl are not required to pick what suits one of them best and unanimously chose that option, so they exercise free will and choose what they want. Setting free will aside, try interviewing for an executive business position while wearing clothes you stole from a homeless person behind the building (Please don't actually steal from homeless people), I guarantee you will not get past lobby security. Why? You will not fit in and it will be obvious. Everyone else who enters the building is wearing a suit but you. For some people religion is something that bonds them to families, communities, even countries. For some people, religion is a part of everyday life. It has shaped their culture, affecting the way they talk, the way they dress, and the way they live. So, why do people "believe" their religion is best, because they can! Did you really spend six years in college to ask such a stupid question, or is “Dr, Grey” just a poorly coordinated screen name. Now a question for you: What has “religion” done to you? | from Rain Child Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 22:12 (Agree/Disagree?) I would say Hinduism should come under the major religions...any idea of the population of India? Where they have the lagerst percentage of religious people in the world. Sikhism on the other hand covers only about 2% of Indians. (reply to this comment)
