Getting On : Seeking Justice
The Family - Children of God Survey | from dmask11 - Wednesday, March 05, 2008 accessed 717 times How how the majority of people feel about the way they grew up! Take this survey: http://thefamily-childrenofgod-survey.com The group refers to anyone out of its "circle", group, cult, family as "system" or "systemites". Are you serious? These hippies are not 18 anymore and don't have the excuse of being ignorant or young. All fanatical groups make themselves "special" and removed from the "rest" of society. Society is the world and YOU are part of it. To think you are anything else is arrogant and childish. Parents in the group say how even though their "calling", "work", "their God" is very important in their life, that they spend a good part of their time for their kids and even at times have helped them "physically" or materially, as if this were something they should be given special merit or credit for. Are you kidding me? That should be a given! That's what parent do. That's what real parents do without question! Without feeling they are doing something special or extra generous. I'm not talking about caring for us as adults, but as children, that should be their priority since it was their decision to have so many kids. Giving your kids what they need materially is not something you should be given extra praise for. It should be done without question! I'm sure some parents now regret that they let their kids go off to teen camps at such a young age. However, staying with you parents would have been just as bad or worse. You live a cultish life. You want to know what it was like growing up like we did? We hated it. We wanted friends, we wanted to learn and study. We would teach ourselves things, make up math problems, invent things, create things all because we had such a great desire to learn. It makes me cry when I think about children who wanted to grow and learn- being made to live in a world of jesus freaks who think they are here to "save the world" and that the world is gonna end and all that crazy doomsday fear and damnation bs. You have half of the kids growing up in this cult believing all this crap. We who have seen your deception, hate this more than anything. While I agree that after a certain age kids become adults and should fend for themselves, you never gave us the tools. You may say, take some resposibility. That's right, how about these grown adults and parents take responsibility for their actions and the lives of those they were entrusted to care for. Whoever thinks this is ingnorant and has not taken responsibility and assertiveness to place responsibility where it belongs or are still under the influence of their brainwashed upbringing. Maybe you're one of the younger kids who doesn't believe any of this abuse happened. Do you want to know what our memory as a children was? Having to get up early and going on dirty city busses or on the street giving out literature about damnation, hell and heaven and things we didn't understand, begging for money. Going out with crazy adults who made us walk for hours, the whole damn day, door to door giving out you pathetic message and getting yelled at and chased by security. Being hungry all day and wanting just to go home and be a kid. Having to sing on the street with military going around threatening to grab us if we didn't move- literally peeing our pants with fear. Seeing kids go to school and wondering why we weren't allowed to go to school and have stability. The times we do remember being sent to a school we were always so embarrassed because we were so behind and couldn't even keep up with he class. Then being uprooted, always moving as soon as things were comfortable in some way, cause god forbid we should ever be comfortable or stable. Never feeling secure or understanding why we had to preach to other people except that we did because we were told. Fear of god punishing us for not being willing and excited and ready to "win souls". Eating raw hotdogs with mustard because we were always so broke. Being made to memorize and memorize and memorize the bible and writings from a drunk pervert which we didn't even understand- and may I add, who wasn't even original. What a fucking looser nutcase. Talk about a buch of dumb sheep who followed him. People who have no backbone and can't even stand up for themselves and think for themselves. Feeling hungry and eating bread and cheese. Living in a dirty old van with no windows and freezing at night. Being made to sing to people and beg for money. Believing the world was bad and out to get us. Getting beaten and spanked by insecure adults who liked touching kids. knowing other kids who's dads played with their penises and not knowing what to think. Seeing little girl friends our age crying because their moms made them sleep and fondle men who wanted little girls- fucking pervs. Watching orgies and crazy naked adults and thinking it was normal. Being spanked in front of other kids with our pants down for not praying and raising our hands to praise god at 7am. Being made to pray on our knees for god to kill "our enemies" the "systemites" for 5 hours at a time in these special fellowships called NAFs. Having to take care of children day in and day out always thinking to ourselves when will this ever end! Always crying and hurt inside. We just wanted to be kids You made all of us growing up when we were kids ourselves, take care of YOUR children. And YOU don't see anything wrong with that. They are YOUR kids, you decided to have them. Take care of them for christs sake! If you want to know the sole reason why most of us wanted to leave at 13 to teen camps and were so anxious to get away? It was having to take care of kids all day and all night. If we didn't take care of kids we had to go on the street and pass out your bs literature and "win souls". What fucking loosers you all are!!! It's interesting how parents in the group believe that we wouldn't be who we are today because they protected us from the "system education and influence". They couldn't be further from the truth. The world is our home and everything in it. Everything worth anything, we have learned from the world and the place they call the "system". Our core and our being have always been the same since we were born and it's certainly no credit to the way we grew up as children. We are 100 times stronger and more intelligent and more assertive than they can ever dream to be. Grow up. Thos of you who defend this sick group- get a life! I'm not excusing kids that have left and gotten into drugs or made big mistakes and have problems. But I blame you the parents for the lack of foundation you have given us and for not giving us the tools. The fact that all we did growing up was take care of the younger siblings and make money singing, begging and selling since we were born for you. That's your job. Sure, lots of people have it worse. However, that doesn't make it right or acceptable- especially since you as an adult are supposed to know better. They keep thinking our high school diploma is what we're all twisted about when it comes to education. Its about a way of life. Most of us took our GED when we left. Who cares. No, it doesn't make you a better person. It's about growing up feeling safe, and cared for and mingling with others our age in the classroom of the world, going to school. Socializing in other ways other than socializing to get money or to make friends who will help the group financially. People in your cult, group, family, whatever you call it, don't have any real friends outside the group unless they have something to give them. You don't have friends who are just friends whom you don't expect anything from. Don't you see the selfish you are- and the irony of this kind of existence? Don't you see anything wrong with this? Of course you don't which is why the only people you target are "rich" people you feel will be able to help "gods work". Your nothing but con artists, looser hippies who couln't make it in the real world. Making money to live and survive at 5 years of age is not what children should be doing- at any age. Here is a thought. Think about a child going out to buy some shoes when he was 12 and all he could think about was how guilty and selfish he was for needing these shoes and how you were making a huge sacrifice to get them for him. That he was making you go without. Think about that as a parent! How selfish you are. You guys live in a bubble of your "truth" and your own twisted faith and if that helps you sleep at night then ok. That's your addiction- Your religion is your drug of choice. Everyone is selling something and you sell your faith and this gives you the assurance that you have your place cut out in the next life. I supposed this ignorance is bliss! However, do you want to be an apostle and a disciple like you claim you want to be? A missionary giving everything up to preach the gospel? Well, then read your bible- a disciple leaves everything, including his family to live this lifestyle. He doesn't drag his family around begging and abusing his kids by not looking out for them. Negligence is just as bad as having done these things yourself. I know parents who made their little 11 year old girls have sex with grown men. You tell me this is made up- I tell you to fuck yourself you looser second or third or whatever generation kids!!! I hope one day you'll have the backbone to stand up for yourself since you need this group to help you survive and give you purpose. Talk about a whack job on your brain. You may think we're bitter and that it will ruin our lives. Well, bitterness is not our style and it sure doesn't become us. We're angry, yes, We're saddened. We're disappointed. We wish we had the understanding we do now when we were teenagers. But bitter, NO! We simply don't care since it is the past now. But what does bother us is we am reminded of it everytime we speak to our siblings or we see problems that could have been avoided had we not grown up in a fanatical religious group and how it really does mess up your pshyci- not that we expect you to understand this you simple minded losers! Most of us haven't ever taken steps to fight the family/COG and not due to lack of desire but simply, we just wouldn't waste our time and waste more of our lives on this pathetic cult that has mentally and emotionally ruined so many kids. You decided as an adult to join and be a part and make this your life. We never had a choice. We never had a safe place to go if we wanted to leave. The child abuse is one thing and that can almost be forgiven. What is ten times worse is the fear and mental oppression you systematically opressed us with. You claim you have the "Truth". How arrogant is that! There is no one truth, only interpretations and what is "true" to oneself. The "real God"? That's YOUR interpretation! How can you claim anything is true or real or better. Like all others before you, you are one in millions of other fanatics of other faiths and beliefs who think they have the truth. Simple minded has nothing to do with academic knowledge, it has to do with lack of independent thought and lack of being able to make up your own mind about belief and "truth". Just blind faith of what you read or are told by your superiors (what you call leaders or prophets) and the books that were compiled by a bunch of jewish fanatics called the bible. You guys are no different than any other cult/church out there who claims they have the truth. Faith can be a good thing but it's also an excuse for the feeble minded. Fort those who want a quick fix to life and an assurance of the next. You don't need academic knowledge to have common sense. |

You're a wannnabe, but not quite Branch Davidian Material" result graphics for my Facebook? Come on now! Seriously though, do we get to see the resulting statistics? (reply to this comment)
| | | from cheeks Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 18:16 (Agree/Disagree?) You come off very angry in your post, and rightfully so, I wonder how much credibility this lends or takes away from the survey. They could say that because your post was anti-Family it attracted for the most part anti-Family participants. Just my opinion. (reply to this comment)
| from Peter Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 17:18 (Agree/Disagree?) If you plan to use the survey data for anything that matters, you really need to start over from scratch. It has a number of fundamental problems that can't be fixed by merely changing a few questions. You should rethink your entire approach and try to find some experts or professionals who can help you design a a proper survey. There are so many problems with the wording of almost all the questions that I wouldn't know where to begin and you would be much better off getting someone who knows what they are doing to help you design the survey and interpret the data. Also, while protecting the privacy of the survey participants is indeed a good idea, it seems rather strange for the person (or institution) collecting the data to be almost completely anonymous. When doing research that involves human subjects, there are also basic standards and ethical considerations that have to be taken into account even if your research is exempt from approval by an institutional review board or independent ethics committee. I know you mean well, but I don't think you've thought this through. (reply to this comment)
| from holysavage Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 17:14 (Agree/Disagree?) I agree with most of you all...the questions could have been worded a little better and been more in depth...i also would have liked to see ones about various forms of punishments used in the group such as hard physical labor, silence restrictions, and the like.... | | | from steam Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 13:02 (Agree/Disagree?) I have a suggestion as to how to keep the results "real" but it would affect the anonymity issue a little, although I think most people would not mind it. If people could fill in their "moving on" handle and a list of the "handles" that participated were given to the MO site admins. They could send out a short e-mail to every handle that participated saying "someone took the survey and listed your handle do nothing if it was you. Let us know if it wasn't". This would allow it to be clear for the most part how accurate things are. If too many people took the survey and did not list a handle and did not list that they are current members, it would be suspicious, as well as if a bunch of new handles were created and they all took the survey. Also, I got to the end and did not get to see any results (got a blank page after I submited the info). (reply to this comment)

| | | from Ne Oublie Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 12:50 (Agree/Disagree?) I completed the survey, but as someone who frequently commissions such quant/qual surveys and analyses the data, I would have to say that I wouldn't be able to use any data generated from this survey. Almost every question is either multi-part or asks a scale of questions while only giving the opportunity for a binary response. The response options are also not consistent, and often don't match the structure of the question. The wording of questions is also often clumsy and open to multiple interpretations. All this combines to create a number of - often opposing - inferrences into each response. Leaving any data just about useless in any meaningful way. (reply to this comment)
| | | | | | | from JohnnieWalker Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 09:49 (Agree/Disagree?) I started taking the test, but had to stop halfway through because there was no way to clearly answer some of the questions. Question #22, for instance, contains 2 mutually exclusive statements, making it impossible to answer with a simple Yes or No. Also, I'm uncertain of how to answer questions regarding my parents that are worded in a manner suggesting they are still members of The Family. Both my parents have left the cult. Lastly, many of the questions include quantifiers (e.g. "for hours on end", "systematically", "incredibly") that may not apply, and thus affect the outcome of the answers. For instance, I may have prayed against The Family's enemies, but never for hours on end. Once these issues are corrected, I'd be happy to take the survey again. (reply to this comment)
| | | | | From Lance Thursday, March 06, 2008, 11:05 (Agree/Disagree?) I agree with Johnniewalker(insert ass kissing here). I took the survey and agree that too many of the questions were ambiguous i.e. the questions about your parents. My step-father is still in the cult and since he is the one who technically raised me I can say that my parents are still, but I could also say that they are out because my mother and biological father are out. I could also answer both Yes and No to my parents being sorry for the lifestyle that I grew up in as both my biological father and mother have repeatedly told us children that, but my shmuck of a step dad I believe could care less, considering that he still lives and defends the cult. | | | | from shikaka Thursday, March 06, 2008 - 07:55 (Agree/Disagree?) Thank you for taking the time to post a survey. However, it would be foolish to assume that that WS doesnt closely monitor this website. As the survey is open to anyone who can answer 3 'family' questions, I would immediately regard any 'results' you get as highly suspect. What is stopping TF from having their acolytes take the survey en masse and produce overwhelmingly positive results? Seems like someone spent some time making that survey, and its a shame that it may have been time wasted. Its no longer viable as a research tool IMO. (reply to this comment)
