from Sam Eagle - Tuesday, February 07, 2006 accessed 919 times Two years ago my dad finally convinced me to leave the cult! I don't have to tell you it was the greatest decision I've made in my 23 years! Whew! He told me at first it will feel like Heaven getting out, but then reality will hit about 1 week later when I have to find a new job, life, friends, culture, career, hobbies, likes, dislikes, personal history, etc! He also introduced me to the Latin American School of Medicine in Havanna, Cuba. Check out www.ifconews.org for a brief, but very informative look at this very new medical university in Cuba. The university is only 7 years old but there are now about 5,000 students from more than 25 countries studying here. My dad does volunteer work for IFCO from the USA and travelled 4 times to Cuba on their 'Friendshipments Caravans'. 5 years ago the Cuban government initially offered IFCO 300 fully paid scholarships for minority students from the USA, but have since offered the scholarships to just about anyone b (Editors note: This is all that was received.) |
