What’s so pretty about Pretty Woman.

What’s so pretty about Pretty Woman.

The other day I was sitting on the couch with my fiancée, watching the classic rags to riches movie Pretty Woman; Succumbing myself, again, to another chick flick. All for a sudden a question brewed in my head and tingled that innate sense of observational criticism that I am proud to say is one of my favorite character traits.

Many women, though not all, will woos over the romantic cliché of the rich man, giving the young and very unlucky girl, the opportunity that provides both financial and romantic rewards. This idyllic fantasy shouldn’t condemned, no matter how far flung and unrealistic.
But allow me to drop a few crumbs of sardonic realism here. It tears my insides out to even think that woman want to be treated as equals, yet there are so many that subscribe to this Knight on a white horse, fix all my problems method of thinking.

So to all whom get teary eyed at watching this ridiculously lame movie, allow me to keep feeding you some crumbs?

First and lastly: Julia Robert character is a prostitute; and although her character shouldn’t be judged based solely on her profession, one has to consider the conundrum faced when choosing her as a role model. As though, even if all her dreams were realized, and thus the viewers warm and fuzzy feeling at the end of the movie, any vicariousness involved is profoundly stupid.

Call me a sexist if you wish. All I have done is provide a focal point on a subject that many men are already thinking.
What are your thoughts?

Pretty woman is about a stupid slut and an ridiculously idealised story of money-grabbing young woman gets rich and self obsessed man who wants a bit of young eye candy dangling off his arm. Utterly pathetic!

I agree completely. The film completely glosses over the harsh realities of prostitution, replacing the truth with Hollywood glamour. It’s been a long time since I was subjected to this film, but from what I remember, she only has to sleep with one guy (the supposedly amazing looking Richard Gere) who then whisks her away on his white horse/gives her his credit cards, saving her from the potential realities of the seedy world of drugs, venereal diseases and unattractive men. Please!
