Getting Out : Media Reports

Just wondering

from Guccigirl - Tuesday, August 15, 2006

The other night I was watching tv and I saw a preview for a documentary about cults. The first clip shown was of Ricky. I was wondering if anyone knows when it is going to air - had the tv on mute at the time so I missed when it is supposed to air, all I know is that it is on a Tuesday. If anyone knows anything about it could you fill me in. Thanks.

(Agree/Disagree?)

there is a new show on ABC called "The Outsiders".

I believe that on Tuesday the 22nd day will air an episode that rehashes their primetime live coverage from last year.

I received a call from one of their associate producers since I had appeared on the show last year. Unfortunately, they have not had time to do any sort of an update on the story. I expect for it to be a clumsy re-hash of their broadcast from last year.

Apparently it's an ad for a Primetime series called "The Outsiders." The show doesn't even seem to be about Ricky, and so it's odd (and somewhat upsetting) that they would use those images. I watched the first installment, and it was about the guy who lived with bears in Alaska and a couple who adopted a chimpanzee.

The same documentary series will be playing here in the US - all I know is that it's on tuesday - but I'm not sure of the date. That's the one that I was looking for information on.

Channel 4 will be airing a documentary entitled Cult Killer as part of their Cutting Edge series on Monday 21st at 9pm.

The brief reads:
Cult Killer is a powerful and dramatic Cutting Edge film, which goes to the heart of one of world's most shocking religious sects. On 7 January 2005, Rick Rodriguez, the 29-year-old heir apparent to The Family, slit the throat of his former nanny and then, on a lonely desert highway, killed himself.

I doubt, however, that this would have been advertised in the States

Cutting Edge: Cult Killer

Documentary lifting the lid on one of the world's most notorious religious sects, the Family, focusing on the incriminating videoed suicide note of Rick Rodriguez, the 29-year-old heir apparent to the cult who in 2005 slit the throat of his former nanny and then killed himself. Founded by Rick's adoptive father David Berg, the sect promoted a bizarre blend of messianic Christianity and free love. The flipside was paedophilia, incest and physical abuse

CUTTING EDGE: CULT KILLER

ABC1 Women

Cult Killer a film investigating the extraordinary life and violent suicide of Ricky Rodiguez, who was brought up in the notorious free-love cult, The Children of God. After leaving a video farewell note, he took his own life and the life of his nanny this February, and these events have formed the catalyst for other ex-cult members to group together and take on the organisation ... they've given full access including extensive footage.

However, if you saw an advertisement for something airing on Tuesdays in the U.S. it was probably for ABC's five episode series "Primetime: The Outsiders." I have heard the promo didn't actually mention Rick Rodriguez and I don't know which, if any, of the 5 episodes (one aired last night) will have anything about Rick or the Family but the reporter is Jay Schadler who covered the story in January 2005 for "Primetime Live" - http://www.xfamily.org/index.php/ABC_News:_Tale_of_the_Tape
