Getting Out : Media Reports
HBO doc in the works | from Noah H Thomson - Monday, January 09, 2006 accessed 1539 times HELP NEEDED Hey Guys, My name is Noah, I grew up in the family as well. About a year ago I sent out a letter stating I had the possibility of making a documentary about the second generation - the story of those of us who grew up in The Family/COG. Well, at long last, I have received some funding to be able to embark on this worthwhile project. I have filmed many hours with second generation kids here in the U.S., but I realize that I'm missing so many interesting stories from the rest of the world. I have not been given enough funding to go around the world but I do have enough to head back to my old stomping grounds, Central and South America. The problem I'm facing is I've lost touch with most of the kids I grew up with. This is where I need your help. I'm wondering if any of you located in Central and South America would contact me, so that I can re-establish or make altogether new contact with ex-family kids. Time is of the essence as I plan on being there in March. I really appreciate any help anyone can provide. You can email at: noahhthomson@hotmail.com or call me at 001-323-899-3065. Thanks again, Noah |

| From JohnnieWalker Saturday, January 28, 2006, 14:10 (Agree/Disagree?) I could be wrong about this, but chances are, there aren't many exers in South America, most of them having returned to their North American and European origins. Out of all the exers I personally know or have been in contact with through this site, none of them lives in South America. Even though I was in South America as a child, I remember little about it and have no friends from there. If you need info on Europe, however, I'd be glad to help.(reply to this comment) |
| | from Cultinvator Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 21:31 (Agree/Disagree?) I used to live in Brazil, and from what I know half of my friends that left the family ended up coming to the U.S. It's definately been a massive translation of people to 'babylon' I guess subconciously we wanted to know where it all started, where it went wrong, and of course a lot of the reason is probably because a lot of our relatives are here so getting help from relatives might be part of it. But if you want help I'd be glad to contribute although I'm here in California now. Congrats on the deal! Your friend, Jonathan my email is writejst@hotmail.com (reply to this comment)
| | | from grunge master Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 15:04 (Agree/Disagree?) Hi Noah, Congrats for getting funding for your project. A question: What is your documentary about? The experience of life growing up in TF? The experience of SG's adjusting to life once having left? Will your documentary showcase any genuinely studied and qualified commentators? Will it truly be representative of the majority of those who grew up in TF or is it rather intended an exhibition of you and your friends, projecting onto us all your version of TF. If your documentary is truly about the participants of this site, and not your own subjective experience then that important point should be made clear. If your program does plan to represent all SG's experiences, then tell us more about it, actually involve people, it is after all their lives, not just your project. (reply to this comment)
| From Noah H Thomson Saturday, January 14, 2006, 17:47 (Agree/Disagree?) i think my 21 years in the family qualifies my opion. furthermore, you may not know this but a doc is the viewpoit of the film maker... thats a fact. however i through the course of making this have tryed to show all perspectives, of as you kniw a complex alive and changing orginizem. dambe be the day i set myself up as the all knowing on this. i have tryed to the best of my ability to reprisent all, encluding the vast majoritys opinyon. not excluding even asking the family to speak with me as i would like to give them ampell fare air time ont this doc as well. perhaps i made the mistake of saying "HELP NEEDED" i think what i was really asking for was opinions needed. you ask what this doc is about well, thats up to you and those that chose to partisipate. i will include my stoy, wich i believe is a pretty a tyipical ex fam kids exit story. the rest of the doc i dont know about yet... sorry wish i did. you know i never intended on bringing this up but now that it seems im under attacke i'll tell you. i've been working on this for years trying to find a voice and a out let for your storys. at times it seemed funding was not on its way, i never lost hope because i believed that this is a worthwile project. i spent much of my earnings shooting and paying for the cost of production. becuse of this copmetment and money i put into it i was able to bring this project to a place where those in tv power see the potintual of the storys. oh yeah and now that i have funding to make it, you should also know i will have to leave my job that pays way better for god knows how long in order to finish this doc. i understand you may think i have some other motives to doing this, i dont really know what to say to that. i've always been one of the opinion the best revinge is to live well. thats really all i want to do. but i've come this fare with this i wont stop now. so you can help or not its up to you. noah ps sorry about the spelling, and am to tired to spell check.(reply to this comment) |
