from Oddman - Thursday, April 07, 2005 accessed 1228 times In the Sankei Newspaper, there was a story about a religious group in Kyoto. A core member and the leader were arrested for beating female members of the congregation, who had failed to show up for some rite. The article says beatings had been occuring frequently, and members were taught to consider it as the love of God. By teaching their members that leaving the group would send them to hell, and refusing beatings was a sign of a "lack of faith", they had built an environment that made it difficult for the victims to report to the authorities. Gee, sounds very familiar. Are there no original cults? |
