Miriam Williams, author of Heaven's Harlots, and ex-member of the Children of God, and many other ex-members like her, are all expressing their anguish at the recent announcement the Prendergast's as the 1999 Parents of the Year by the National Parents Day Foundation (www.parentsday.org). The Parent of the Year award was established by Joint House Resolution 398 and signed by President William Jefferson Clinton. The bill was sponsored by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Ut) and Rep. Dan Burton (R-In). Sam Ajemian, director of the CounterCOG organization (www.countercog.officehiway.com), says that although a 1998 newsletter by Prendergast's indicated 2 of his children are "off to college", they actually left him due to the cult "Loving Jesus" doctrine where members are taught to "masturbate to Jesus". Mr. Ajemian says this means that the Prendergast family was still a part of the Children of God cult as recent as two years ago, otherwise the children leaving would not have known about the new "Loving Jesus" doctrines. Ex-members of the cult have given first-hand accounts of how Zach Prendergast personally abused not only his own children, but many other adults and children in the cults "Victory Camps" in Palarmo, Italy. Many of these accounts are documented on the www.ExCogNet.com web site. Ex-members of the Children of God cult wish to alert the cult apologist community and concerned Christians to this atrocity and solicit your help in getting the word out to your congressman and other authorities. The Prendergasts are running a food-bank community service called Family Services in Longmont, Colorado, (www.familyservices.org) which should be investigated thoroughly and their IRS status as a non-profit organization reviewed. To add insult to injury, the irony of this story is that according to Steve Hassan, former "Moonie" and author of "Combating Cult Mind Control" (www.freedomofmind.com), the National Parents Day Foundation is a front organization for the Unification Church, a.k.a. "The Moonies". Researcher and private investigator Larry Zillox, Jr. of the Banzai Research Institute says the National Parents Day Foundation is "run out of offices owned by [the Unification Church]" and "headed by many of the same people [that Rev. Moon] has used to front for him in the past like Robert Grant." Because the award has it's origin with a joint resolution of Congress, many ordinary news organizations, like the Associated Press, have run stories about the latest "National Parents Day" award recipient, unaware of the Prendergast's close ties to "The Family" cult founded by David Berg, a.k.a Moses David (deceased). Upon examination of the Family Services web site, it is easy to make the connection between the cult and Prendergast's. Ex-members readily identify the "Kiddie Videos" being offered on the web site for sale as cult materials. In a "Daily Times" article, a publication of the Children of God cult, Zach and Naomi are "referred to as independent missionaries which is a code word for the COG/Family" according to Sam Ajemian of CounterCOG.
